Divorce for Americans living in DR
I searched the forums and read several threads on divorce, but of course, every situation is different.
My question is if a couple (both Americans) got married in the US (state of Virginia), both live here (north coast), one is a DR resident but the other isn't, and they wish to get a divorce here. Can it be done if one is not a resident and chances are that there may be problems regarding temporary spousal support (which wife wants and husband may not agree to--BTW, no children)? The grounds for divorce are many but wife seems to want to do it due to drug use of husband (she read somewhere that it constitutes ground for divorce in DR--I advised her against it, don't know and don't know whether this is good or bad advice on my part).
I tried to research this issue; read somewhere that you can't get to divorce court in the DR unless both spouses are residents. Is this true?
Thanks for your help.
PS: If you know of a good divorce lawyer in the north coast which can handle the divorce here (assuming it can be done in DR courts), please PM the name and contact info.
