How would someone go about registering a complaint about an Abagado who stole the clients money and falsified papers?

Join the club, Tabitha. Just be aware that he or she will claim that your money belongs to him, on account of services rendered or payouts on your behalf. Check also to see if you signed a power of attorney that allowed him to redraft documents on your behalf and sign them for you.

Tabitha don't waste your time. You will loose more in the end. The lawyer bar association (EL Colegio De Abogados) is where you should file the complaint, but it’s very unlikely you get anything back. I went through this before and believe me is not worth it.

right,
a very usual paper to sign when hiring a lawyer for what ever ocassion/work to do.
and of course it is very confidential, b/c with such paper signed a lawyer could do many things you don't really wanna do him, and he does not even need to ask your permission to do so, b/c you gave that permission with the signature on the waver.
that's exactly the reason why i always say a lawyer you put on a job should be a reputable and from different sides recommended reliable person before you put him on any job or sign any paper.
yeap, not always easy to find,
but heck, i meet here so often people who walk in the next and cheapest(and often even most expensive on the outcome) lawyers office and think now they got the right guy for the right job, just b/c that lawyer lady is sooo young and looks sooo good aso aso.
people,
lawyers and dentists and ex-wifes are the persons you have to be aware of your entire life, so choose them very carefully.
to get a reputable lawyer for any kind of lawyer job, make the best investigations on him/her possible, like asking for your choice around and listen to the people with own experience(good and bad) on such.
here on the bord we have the reputable and trusworthy and recommendable lawfirm of Sr Guzman, the reputation of that speific lawfirm is simply the matter of fact that so many bordmembers used them for so many and different purposes and been satisfied with their services.
that's what makes a lawyer or lawfirm a good lawyer/lawfirm.
as simple as that.
in case of the dentists:
i am today's in the lucky position to have one i trust with all i can(not much in case of a dentist, but at least he is the one, lol), in the past i've been more than once close to pull the gun, just the big pain held me back.
in case of ex-wifes:
hey guys,
we are just men,
so we have them and always will look out for the next(Ex-),
that's life and as long as you're a man over 8 and under 150 years ole you can't do anything on that.
it's named life.

back to the OP:
to run on a lawyer which you choose in the first place and wanna go after him/her now,
as easy as that:
make a better choice on this 2nd attempt.

While many will tell you that it is a waste of time to pursue the lawyer in question, I disagree. There is presently a case in POP about a lawyer who was alleged to have taken his client's money. I make no comment as to whether the lawyer is guilty or not, but use this case as an example.

The lawyer has since lost his office (building and all) as well as burning his bridges in the legal community and lost a good deal of his reputation. Will the monies be forthcoming? Who's to say. But a few things happened:

1) Future potential victims are less likely to use this lawyer
2) A light was shined on these sorts of goings on and as such, we are that much closer to transparency and professionalism in the legal profession
3) The client likely feels he at least stood up for himself

On a related point, above and beyond researching your lawyer, I always recommend putting escrow monies with a lawyer in the States or Canada. Why? Because they are insured and if anything happens to the lawyer or the money, the insurance kicks in. As we have seen, if your escrow money here in the DR disappears, you are very much out of luck.

In this country ESPECIALLY.........you should absolutely REFUSE to sign any "POA" unless it specifically states the purpose of the "POA"......... ie: "any and all matters related to the divorce proceedings of Jane Doe"..........

I would suggest ALSO that you INSIST that the "POA" has an expiration date: ie: "This power of attorney shall expire on xx/xx/xx".............

........you can always sign another if it runs out...........

THE ABOVE TWO CLAUSES are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON any LEGIT attorney should not agree to it...........

If you have POA's now, you should have them revoked and have new ones written with the above stipulations.........

even that i know including by own back in the day experiences that there are many many bad apples outtha in case of "Lawyers",
before we name this specific one and out him within our lil but powerful community, we would need some facts.
the OP been til now a onetime posting,
absolutely no info given about what happened.
it would be really helpful, say necessary to make such a thread worth to start, to provide the details of what happened,
and of course then we wanna know the name and address of the lawyer.
but til now we have absolutely nothing to judge on.
