How do I legally send a firearm from the USA to DR?
My parents are Dominican. My mother retired a few years back and is living in Santiago, DR. I usually go out there from time to time to visit and plan on living out there within a few years.
In the USA I have a permit to conceal and carry a firearm. I can take it with me from state to state without any problems through the airport. How can I legally bring one of my guns over from the USA to the DR?

You can't. It is that simple.
And you do not take a firearm into any airport in the USA unless it is in your checked luggage...(Unless you are an officer of the law...)
Why look for trouble??

Hillbilly, are you a lawyer, judge, or know the laws of the DR?
Actually, you need to have it in a box with a wired lock to be more accurate even if you are an officer of the law, since your going there. The only time you conceal and carry in an airplane is on duty or traveling on diplomatic rules.
I am not looking for trouble. I am a competitor with rifles and hand guns and love to hunt. I was just asking a simple question to someone with experience on this topic.

Few years ago the DR gov. put a ban on ANY gun / ammo import.
It is prohibited to bring guns to the DR, not only you, but even for gun dealers. Because of this the gun prices are sky high. US$ 2000+ for a Glock.
I use to go to IDPA competitions and hunted a lot in the US but I had to leave all my guns there.
They don't care if you are licensed in the US. If you bring a gun here it will be confiscated and there is a big chance that you will never see it again. I know for a fact that it happened to a retired police officer here.

Hillbilly was just giving a straight-forward answer to a question that has been asked and answered many times before, and the answer could have been found very easily using the search feature.
You shouldn't be so touchy, Vladiny.

Lose the attitude.
Go ahead and do what you want and ignore people who know the DR in and out.
Good luck, sport.

TheHun, thanks for the answer!
I am not being touchy or have an attitude, just did not like the question of "why look for trouble?" from HillBilly, when that is not my intention at all. I never carry a firearm on me unless I am going hunting or to a shooting range.

In which case, write to the Minister of Sport, Jay Payano or phone him and tell him your competitive background & prowess. f.payano@sedefir.gov.do Tel 809-381-0003
This could be the start of a fruitful relationship........ You never know they might need someone on the national team & might welcome you with open arms & find a way round the awkward regulations. Certainly it would bring you to the Minister's attention!

yeap,
if i recall it right that ban started summer 2006.
and a used glock for just around 2K$$ would be a great deal.
prices are incredibly high.
Ginnie's recommendation is a great idea.
as a Dominican, with a good sportshooting background proofed, you may come on a national team, and on such connections new ways may open.

I know a person who is a resident there and last year he moved his personal goods to the DR and in his container he put a 40 cal handgun and 1,000 rounds of ammo. They never found it he said and to this day has posession of it..Apparently he was lucky by what I am reading here.He did say however he is having a hard time finding ammo for it...And said he has to go to Haiti to get it..Why is it so hard to find in the DR ?
