Adopting Dominican-born son

Oh wait, I think you'll need the father's written permission ( maybe not if you have guardianship) to take him out of the country. I remember having to do that when I took my son to Mexico when he was 14. No one ever asked for it at the border but you never know.

Actually, luckily, I already took care of that. A very nice judge granted me permission to leave the country with all 3 children, without seeking anyone's permission.

I wonder if that judge might be the best person to point you in the right direction. You could write him/her and let them know how you appreciate his decision, what's new with the boy, and how you want to proceed to adoption as quickly as possible as you are having problems obtaining a passport, he needs to be a part of your family, stability, security etc. Maybe his assistant could call you with the name of a good lawyer. Just a thought. Maybe he could become a Crown Ward and you would be his foster mother and you could immediately apply to adopt him or something along those lines.

Done, Margaret! Thank you for the great idea!!! In the meantime, I'm still going to have to take a day trip with Angelo to Toronto. I don't want Angelo to miss a big opportunity in baseball should it arise, for not having a passport. Hopefully the consulate is correct in only taking about 2 weeks to arrive. When my ex-husband lost his, it took about 6 months to get.
