so here are the 2 variations from my own personal point of view:
#1 you are an adult younggun and in love with a 16 years ole minor,
you both had fun, parents agree to the kids relationship and the planned marriage. Hey, congratulations, welcome to Paradise.
#2 you are old enough to be her Grandpa and had sex with that 16 years ole minor, sure convincing the family by telling about those marriage and over all future plans. Darn, in such case i name the Grandpa a Perv and if the net provides details about names of the Perv or the Gal around Cabarete or where ever, i would know to where such info needs to be forwarded.

i don't believe that somebody 'lies' the described way on his age in the profile. there is the simple possibility 'to not show/display' the age of a bordmember, and that is even the default thingy when opening an account. so as long as 'not prooven innocent' i prefer to believe that the OP's postings on this tread are exactly what their writing suggerated:

The legal age in the DR is 18. Yet it is true that if a girl under 18 already has a child she has virtually no chance of prosecuting anyone who might be her sexual partner, regardless of age differences. The sexual norms and culture of the DR is a complicated and diverse piece of art, and in my opinion rarely understood by foreigners living here or visiting here. It is especially difficult to understand if one lives in a tourist town and associates primarily with other ex-pats.
In short, age difference is not the biggie here, like in the US and Canada. What maters here is social class, skin color and family ties. A few years back I dated a young women in Loma de Cabrera- we were together 4 years. The age span was 25 years. The age difference between her mother and father was over 30 years. Spreads like this are not the norm but very common all over the island, particularly in the campo and small towns. Now, social class is a different story. No respectable yuppie form the capital or Santiago would ever marry a poor, uneducated girl regardless of her good hair and beautiful looks. Amante yes, wife no. The skin color issue is evolving but is still a very important part of the selection process. That's just the way it is. When dominicans from the capital go to a tourist beach and see white tourist girls with Haitians or dark skinned sankies, they just scratch their head- they just don't get it. dido for observing foreign women walk around topless on the beach. After 20 some years here I have never seen a topless dominican on a beach. My own opinion is the biggest whore in Sosua would NEVER be caught dead walking on the beach topless. Point is, yes there are cultural differences.
In the DR we have lots of putas in the tourist towns and someone visiting could easily conclude that the DR is a sexually permissive country, full of lust and lovin on every corner. Well, it is that- there are actually prostitutes in every town in the DR( like baseball fields), just on a smaller and more discreet level than the tourist areas. But the DR is also a conservative catholic culture where marrying a virgin is still a biggie for large segments of the male population-mostly the educated and upper classes. In all social classes in the entire country most young women lead what we would consider a very restricted life- they can only go out with family, rarely by themselves, ect. The parents perceive this to be proper and in the interest of their children, trying to prevent pregnancy and preserving her virginity for her future husband, thus elevating her in the marriage pool.
The country is also full of amantes(mistresses) and more or less every domincan male that can afford one has one. To be an amante is still considerd a repectable path in life for poor girls with few opportunities. I once live in an appartment building in P Plata with 9 apartments. Three were occupied by young girls who were the amantes of older dominican men. They visited each week and paid for all expenses. Thats life in the DR and not just in P Plata. I have observed the same behavior everywhere I have lived including Manzanillo, Monte Cristi, Santiago, the captial, Las Matas, Loma de Cabrera, Moncion, Cabrera and Nagua.
My advice to the original poster is do things legal and avoid problems. If he wants to date someone young then make sure they are of legal age. My comment for all my fellow posters is this. Never forget how very very difficult life is here for more than 70% of the population, and always try to see things from their perspective not yours, when evaluating their behavior. In short--- know the culture, respect the culture. Simple example- when you drive by a little casita about to fall down and you see 4 or 5 naked little kids paying in front of the house, dirty and living in abject poverty, try to observe the situation from their perspective not a US or Canadian viewpoint. WE think its horrible planning and decision making. THEY, think those naked little kids are an asset, not a liability. In a country where there is no social net, those kids represent their financial future, their social security, their possibilty for a decent life when they get old, ect. ect. Best Regards to all K

Thanks for posting, K.. And keep educating us. And I don't think that we have a clue as to how old this grey wolf fellow is... We jumped on some other posting of a greyfox listed as 67. And while you may be speaking of Dominicans, what many of us are reacting to is seeing the sort of thing that we do not see, or even allow, back in our home countries, which is really under age sex tourism,, not talking 16... but... more like .... well children.. which you really see here in the beach towns and with the tourists. Since this guy is clearly a tourist, clearly a foreigner, he is being treated more like perhaps a "foreign predator" than a local.
