Cool Going from temporary to permanent residency?

Hello:

I got my temporary residency in November of last year.

When is the earliest I can come to the D.R. to get my permanent residency? What if I got my permanent residency on the 20th of November of 2008? When is the earliest I could come to the D.R.?

When is the latest I can come without losing the ability to get my permanent residency? I understand that there is a $20 per month late fee for each month that you go beyond a certain date. But how long can a person delay it without losing it?

Thanks for your input, Bob

Cool clarification

I just can not put my finger on the law concerning exactly when I can come back to get my permanent residency if I got it on Nov. 20th of 2008. Would I have to get it exactly on Nov. 20th of 2009 to keep the rules or could I get it a week or two before that time or a week or two after that time? I just do not know and I need help in planning my return.

Thanks, Bob

I applied for my permanent 2 weeks after expiration. I paid 3800 for the medical tests and no late charge was attached.

Cool Guzman Ariza attorneys?

What is the email address of a good lawyer with Guzman Ariza that can help me with my permanent residency? I need one who can speak English of course.

Tell me what I need to bring. Remember this is my permanent and not my temporary residency that I am going to get.

Thanks, Bob

All they wanted to see was my temporary residence card. They did not ask for my passport or cedulla. But, I would bring everything anyways because It might depend on who's at the window. I was also told if it goes more than 30 days exporation, there is an 800 peso fine. You will also need to purchase an information form headed...
Secretaria de Estado de Interior y Policia for 100 pesos.
If you have someone that can go with you that speaks Spanish and English you will save at least $500 U.S. An attorney really isn't necessary. Just common sence
Good Luck

Cool I would like to save $500

I would be willing to pay someone $300 who was not a lawyer who could go with me to get my permanent residency card.

But how much would immigration charge me beyond the $300 that I pay the person who goes with me and translates for me when communication needs to be done? What are the immigration costs?

The person who goes with me to immigration must also take me to get a chest x-ray and a blood sample etc. if immigration
requires it.

I need to save as much money as possible. But I also need to get a valid address on my permanent residency card and not a fake one.

Thanks, Bob

But don't they want you to get a chest x-ray and give them a blood and urine sample? I was told that these are important also for getting the permanent residency. But perhaps things have changed? waytogo can you comment on this?

Thanks, Bob

Read my post number 3....$3800. D.P for medical tests. I took the 5:30 am Metro to the capital, 540 D.P round trip, arrived at 7:45, took a taxi to Direccion General De Migracion....350 D.P. round trip...arrived at 8:00 am sharp. Was the first one in line and had to wait 25 minutes until they opened the window. Directed to a room where they took blood and urine.
Then to another building which was a 30 second walk where they took the x-ray. Total time spent waiting and the tests...1 hour. I am finishing up in Santiago. Nice and easy. NO LAWYER NEEDED...PERIOD

Cool Hoops I have to jump through?

Lawyers want to make you think it is so difficult and they make you think you have to jump through so many difficult hoops.

Here is the list I have from a law firm. Please tell me how much of this I will really need and how and when I should get it.

Thank you, Bob

1. Three photocopies of the provisional residency card.

2. Affidavit by two residents of the Dominican Republic regarding the good morals and good behavior of the applicant.

3. Notarized letter of guarantee from a Dominican person or corporation or a permanent resident.

4. A certificate of good behavior from the Dominican authorities

5. Medical exam performed in the Dominican Republic (blood test and chest x-rays)

6. 4 front photos and 2 profile photos (all 2 x 2 )

7. Completed application forms

After approval of the petition, the applicant receives a Permanent Resident Card valid for a two-year period, renewable for additional two year periods.
