Question Healthcare Insurance - DR to Florida

Has anybody successfully purchased health insurance in the state of Florida while living in Santo Domingo?

If something were to go wrong, or right (ie. getting pregnant), I would prefer to have the option of flying to Miami for treatment.

Does anybody know of an American health insurance provider that provides plans to non-citizens?

    Thanks!

Travel Insurance, Travel Health Insurance, International Travel Insurance

Try this one..... but, it will limit your time in the US to less than 6 months/year.

Other than that, you can pick your countries............. we have this for RD, USA & Canada

I seriously doubt travel ins. policies cover this. Not a medical emergency. Unless you are aware off what could be a very difficult birth you can have faith in the good clinics in Santo Domingo. Do you have health ins. now in the DR? If not the pregnancy will not be covered. I think there are provisions that the policy be in effect 6 mos. prior to conception. However, I think you will get better feedback on this if you title a post more specifically. It sounds like you can afford things, so definetly get top plans that will cover you for Cedimat, Clinic Abreu or Hospiten.

Probably right about the pregnancy issue.

Don't let the word 'Travel' in the heading mislead you..... it is a policy that covers people moving - travelling, if you will - between countries and allows for coverage in more than one jurisdiction.

Its not the sort of travel insurance associated with a flight or a 2week vacation somewhere.

As I stated, we have this coverage ................... because we 'travel' to and live in 3 different countries.

The plan William Webster posted treats pregnancy as a preexisting condition. haha. Funny. Anyways, and under preexisting conditions, provides up to 15K of cost coverage.

My thinking isn't just for pregnancy, but also life in general. Yes there are good hospitals in this country, but there are better hospitals in Miami, and if something goes wrong there, you can sue to get your money back. Here...well, bueno...

Take a look at the following. I can't give you more than what's linked here. But, they are some that I have been checking out for myself. Note that they waive deductible amounts (a large portion) if you check into one of their "Super Special Network Hospitals" (many of those are located in South Florida/Miami) . They also say that they have relationships with a few hospitals in the DR.

    Hope it helps. Good Luck.
