They didn't let me in to Tribeca because my two cousins (females) from NY where not dressed "properly" whatever!!! They missed a hell of a lot of business from us. It was a group of 6 and we are heavy drinkers (and not drinkers of cheap stuff).

LOL - yea right, like they care!! Their club in Santo Domingo (Trio) is also pretty popular for the late-night crowd.
Stay well,

hahaha, don't fret, it probably wasn't personal. I had a bouncer stop me at Francifol, my first time there because I was wearing a tank-top, I said "Hey Dominicano, SOY AMERICANO" He said "So!" You should have seen the look in my face, so I turned around, went back to hotel and changed. When, I returned, he let me in, hahaha.
In matter of fact I got denied entry into Monte-Bar with the same shirt!

Since no one posted a response, is it correct to assume that Santigo doesn't have any of the cultural events (excluding concerts) in question?

Francifol... gwicity wickity upscale bar... plasma televisions, demasiado frio.. high priced drinks for santiago... but definately a place you can feel safe, meet people and rightly said almost everyone has visas to the US and speaks english. Tribeca is about the same, Francifol has more clientele. Saturdays I believe men have to enter in a collared shirt (can be a polo shirt) and no hats allowed.
There are a million and one bars and places in santiago but almost all are dead unless a special event is going on with the exception of the two listed above and a Rancho Tipico around Colinas area (forget the name) and Passions out on the Autopista and around the Monument.
Bembe which is down the street from Shakabana is another good place...

There is jazz on Tuesdays at Palermo; there is ALWAYS something onFridays at the Centro Leon.
However, you are right, there does not seem to be a central deposit of good information for us rich folks. Maybe we don't want the riff-raft to know what and where we will be going?????? (Last part, VERY tongue in cheek)

The reason being, no one is interested on DR1 on these types of activities. When was the last time some one solicited info on jazz events in santiago or a stage show in theatro or some social event in centro espanol? Not a single one. Everyone wants to know about the next concert by Krisspy, anthony santos or how wonderful are the aventuras. Every one wants to know where the women are, which carwash has the best looking hookers and where can I get laid or get a room for 15 bucks / night?
Hillbilly gave away a secret santiaguero hideout, palermo bar. They have regular events of local latin jazz acts. I used to be a regular there until i realized, I was losing precious hours of sleep and I was drinking way too much for my own good. You will see, not a single DR1'er will come to this bar or follow up on the info. The reason being: you will not find hookers there or cheap domincians who are impressed by your white skin.
The theater events are always posted on huge billboards right at the entrance of monumento. You can see what concert is being played or what show is being offered. Oh wait, its all in spanish and most of you folks living in the north coast won't have a clue anyway, so why even bother?
Anyway, there are plenty of social events going on in santiago on weekly basis.
AZB
By the way, centro Leon has a whole month of social /cultural activities scheduled and printed on their brochures. How many of you DR1'ers ever included attending an event at the centro leon on their trip report? Not a single one I bet.

it takes time to convert!!!!!!!!! it takes events!!
sure my gf loves the big name merenge, bachatta , salsa stars....she is still to young to have been introduced to other genres.
but when Andrea Bocelli, Eros Ramazzotti, or Dulce Pontes comes to santiago...YOU WILL CALL ME...right? Ill buy your ticket!!
but who are we fooling..will they ever come to santiago????
how many 20 somethings have been to the opera or to a play???? now how many 20 something DOMINICANS have been ???????????
I bet i can read the sign near the monumnet enough to determine who and when they are playing.
Now you know me and my gf dont need to find the hookers, and dont need to know whats going on at the car wash either, we dont need a $15 room
( we did see KRISSPY)...I wasnt impressed....she likes him...
and I never thought of my white skin as being something that could impress!!..
so just post the info from now on....got it?
oh and thanks......
