I would also be interested in the same information.

As a long time homeschooling parent, I will tell you that the DR is NOT Homeschooling friendly. If for some reason you decide to put your kids in a private school after homeschooling, they WILL put you through the wringer because to them "home school"=NO SCHOOL. I successfully homeschooled our first from 1st-graduation (he passed the CA High School Proficiency Exam at 14 and continued studies; now @ 17 awaiting answers for universities.)

Our other two have been in a variety of situations: public, private and homeschooling through 3 US states and 2 countries, so I'm very familiar with this topic. We've done everything from structured curricula to unschooling/natural learning to Charlotte Mason to A-Beka to Oak Meadow to Unit Studies. Let me know if I can help, but I live in Juan Dolio so I can't give you names in the North. The majority of homeschoolers down here are religious Missionaries (which we are NOT.)

Ah, thanks. I have not homeschooled before, but I am a teacher, and thought perhaps if there was enough interest from other families in the area people could maybe pool their collective talents and resources.

Default Teacher looking for work

Hi-

My girlfriend and I are moving to Las Galeras or Las Terrenas in Feb. She is looking for a paid or volunteer opportunity to teach English in the area. She is proficient in Spanish and English.

Thanks for the help!

Hello--
I have been in contact with people at the Carol Morgan School. They require an entrance exam that has to be taken on site and we do not anticipate being there until the end of the summer. Does anyone have any idea what the chances are for them getting in? (They are good students. 9th and 10th grade next year). Are there lower priced alternatives for English language schools of comparable quality? Does anyone on this forum have children in school in Santo Domingo of comparable age? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Try St George, St Michael, New Horizons, St Thomas and Community for Learning - all are extremely well-regarded and not nearly as expensive as CMS.

Any idea where you will be living? That may also play a part in your decision.

Thanks for the help. I will look into these. I am hoping to get a Fulbright. I am in the final stages of review. I would be living in Santo Domingo, and working at the UASD.

Which part of the city is what I meant Santo Domingo is quite large so some schools might be too far away. If you're going to be living near the UASD you might want to look into the Dominico-Americano or New Horizons. St George and St Michael are a little further away, in Piantini, which is north of 27 de febrero Avenue, and St Thomas and Community for Learning would be very far indeed, in Arroyo Hondo which is north of JFK Avenue.
