where to get an ipod

Does anybody know anywhere near puerto plata that you can purchase an ipod for a fair price or is it cheaper to get it imported

Cheaper to import, (bring with you on the plane) you are unlikely to find current generation ipods in the country at any price so you will be basically overcharged for a discontinued or refurbished model.

Banco de Progreso will give you a free one if you get one of their credit cards and spend about US$5k on it.
