Shipping Car from US to DR

Can someone please advise what is the best way on shipping a car to the DR from the US? What the costs would be and what companies there are out there to use? My husband and I are looking into shipping a car over, so that each time we visit, we do not have to rent a car, since we tend to visit every 1-2 months for atleast 4-5 days. After all that we pay to rent a car, we feel that over time, if we send a car over or maybe even buy one over there, it would save us alot of $$$ and time.

1.Do you have a home there with good security?
2.Do you have a cedula?
3.Is the car more than 5 years old?
4.Check all past threads on this...There must be tons of them...
5.This is not a good IDEA...unless you will be there all the time..

If you get your residency, you could qualify for a discount on the import of the car, but more times than not people say that one should buy the car in the DR instead of importing it to avoid the hassles of dealing with customs.
