I thought as much. So what is the demand like in the Dom Rep. for insect screens and how much variety do you have there?

There was much talk about Dominicans not knowing construction, but it is not uncommon here in the states for someone to perpetuate knowledge of construction and have the crudentials stating that they do........Here in Philly, I see so called builders putting up dangerous block walls which can collapse and doing additions to homes with little knowledge, other than knowing how to sell themselves. So anywhere you go, just thead litely and be carefull....Ask to see jobs completed or working on at this time. Construction field is a hard cut-throat industry in itself. Like sharks smelling blood in the water. My father was a general contracter, whom I considered very honest, would tell me as an 11yr old child on his jobsite to kick stones, not too large into a concrete hole, while the inspector was not looking, to save money on material.......I know a Master Plumber who also is an electrical contracter, licensed, who must have bought his license or had someone take the test for him and he hires unlicensed , knowledgable workers to work for him.....

This will be the case wherever you go the world over. As for the DR, the best thing to do is to get references and see previous homes built, and the older the better, to see signs of defects.

JRR is a DR1 member and a mortage broker I believe. Send him a pm directly to see what rates he can get you.
Also, rates can be had in the 11 to 13 % range from Dominican banks during special promotions "ferias" throughout the year.
In my own case, I am paying off my home loan with two persoanl credit cards as the rate is much cheaper and the amount I will have to pay will be drastically reduced in 1 or 2 years.

Well, Chip good luck to you. It's a very smart idea. Your're going to need more than luck on that one.
