Ladybird -I hope for your sake it won't take too long to regain a sense of security and that you never have reason again to doubt it . I think you did the right thing by confirming the event in spite of catching heck for saying there was a conscious attempt to not publicize what happened.

That's been one of the problems that has inhibited honest, open, and worthwhile discussions about the topic of crime here on DR1. Those who have the facts often don't want to share them - or worse deny the situation. That leaves those who haven't a clue chiming in with basically worthless comments on how "i visited (fill in the blank) for 1 week and had no problem", "my $5 chancletas were stolen, i will never go back", or "there was a robbery here in Butte, Montana last week".

It's nice to be have a chance in this thread to discuss actual events...

All posters in these threads, myself included, would do well to follow the words of Seargent Joe Friday and limit discussion to "Just the facts ma'am, just the facts."

It is not the first time in my life I have experienced armed robberies and the one thing in the past was the nosey parkers visiting the scene of the crime, such as some already have here today to find out all the grisley details, that was another reason I didnt start a thread. Small uninteresting lives some people lead.

That's true of some people.

However, if you were living in a condo complex 1, 5 or 10km down the road, wouldn't you want to know what exactly happened, whether the ladrones were captured or are on the loose, and take steps to review your own security setup based on what you learn?

Unfortunately one can't rely on access to (or existence of) police reports or media coverage to learn these things about our community

Ladyfinger:

FYI - we have dear friends that own a condo in this complex. They are out of the country now and we agreed to look after their place while they are gone.

If you notice I stated just the facts, no more, than what I was told.

You on the other hand assume that people have 'small uninteresting lives' and that people are 'nosey parkers' when you don't have the facts.

Default No Ms. Lady, it was large, very large!

Interesting? Yes, to all in the RD. To make light of this armed assault on a large condo complex is idiotic. It means all North Coasters are at risk! Three weeks ago, we suffered and armed assault(4 pistol shots at me) in our Encuentro house. We promptly moved out fearing that no one is safe in a single family house.. Now, this, at my ODM rental condo.

I was right in the middle of it helping the guards. I felt it was wrong to create a thread about this incident so as not to alarm or worry owners out of the country until they were informed the FULL truth by the correct procedure. Imagine if you owned property and something like this happened and you only read about it - and read misinformed information, you would be concerned wouldnt you? You have not been told the correct info and that is why it is dangerous to post half truths. The owners will be informed the truth - its their properties. We should continue this by PM without unpleasantries

Sorry to hear about this incident Ladybird. I hope you're recovering ok. Sometimes the shock of something like this can be a little delayed... There seem to have been a few bad incidents in varying proportions of late. I hope that we can all put them behind us when we meet up for the DR1 Pool Party in a couple of weeks.....

Thank you Sharlene. I wasnt scared I went into the "professional" mode, I only went into it because I was worried for the guards they are good friends. It was lucky I had the same bullets to supply and the right contacts. Within minutes of my call a truck full of Politur arrived and they positionned themselves well. It was very interesting to see the speed and professionalism of their actions.

I hope you are doing better now too Ive been thinking of you. You know where I am if you need me. I'll pm you.

Default What is the truth Ladybird?

Are we renters not deserving of learning the truth? We suffered through it. By the way, I will not walk unarmed into a gunfight! Did you?
