I also saw this about a Frenchman from Las Terrenas which they thought was a kidnapping originally but discounted the idea and seem to be saying 'crime passionel'. His corpse was discovered.

The "Brain" behind this kidnapping is trying to tie-up loose ends? You bet!
But the FBI haven't given up on getting results in this case ('this' being the lady who was the subject of original post) - see

Live High and mighty in a poverty stricken country and there will be problems!!! People cannot keep exposing these people to their excesses and expect these people to be happy with their substandard lifestyles....the more they are educated the more they will want the same as the Gringo/as have......duh!

Are you suggesting that the gringos and gringas rather stay out and away from this country?
Would the locals then be better off?

BTW, in all kidnapping cases (and other hard crime) cases there were no really poor people involved...

One need not be educated to have desire, but as folks get more educated, they are more likely to fulfill their desires.
Your suggestion that an increase in education would somehow increase this type of crime, is preposterous.

You might not have had the opportunity to view the video interview which the victim gave after she was rescued - I would urge you to look at it. There is nothing 'high & mighty' about this lady whatsoever.

And as Janin says, the perpetrators of these crimes are NOT the really poor people. They are the small number of criminal people. Usually, criminals here are in the strata of society which has more assets than the really poor. Numbers wise, there are far more really poor people than there are criminals although one could argue that the latter group is growing.

Had you said, sylindr, that it isn't wise for foreigners to flaunt wealth I would have agreed with you. But your comment presupposes that the motivating factor for crime by Dominicans is envy and I have never found envy to be a significant Dominican trait. The motivating factor is opportunism by people so inclined to commit crimes. But if someone is not of a criminal persuasion then they won't commit a crime. And in my opinion the more education people have the more they are likely to demand their rights, as human beings, not to turn to a life of crime. I think we need to distinguish between moral and economic issues.

Well said Lambada. Let us see where this case goes from here.

Copied from Diario Libre yesterday:

I am very interested in what Samana Justice does with this. I shall give them a few weeks, but unfortunately, I for one, an not holding my breath on a satisfactory resolution of this case. I hope I am proven wrong on this one!

You are correct Lambada, the Rash family is as down to earth, as one can be. Great people and do "NOT flaunt" anything.

That might be a good point if it weren't for the fact that the majority of the wealthy people by far are Dominicans themselves, born and bred right here. Not only that, Dominicans that are wealthy by far are more demonstrative of their wealth than foreigners.

See article below, copied from El Caribe today. Susan Rash was not killed! Not very accurate reporting. Most of the article provides information that appears to be all wrong, Names, Titles, etc. Editor needs to do a better job!

Entregan pesquisas asesinato
