Nothing's off topic with that.
It brings up a very good point.
Those kids weren't quite looking that way after the house burned down,
in borrowed clothes and sadness in their faces.
Thanks to you all, they are starting to look like beautiful kids again.

That Marie is incredible.
I have an idea of what things cost and obviously knew how much money had been handed over, and she came back with 3 or 4 times as much stuff than I thought she would.
When we were on the way to POP in the car, I was telling Marie some story, and the kids were talking in the back seat.
She asked them to be quiet to not interrupt me.
I told them to go ahead and speak all they wanted, but they kept quiet the rest of the trip.
Momma had spoken and those kids respected her 100%, no matter what I said.
And it was so kool.
They were excited to go.
You can see it in the pix, the way they sat forward on the edge of the seat, with anticipation.
Y'all ought to be proud for helping these folks.
They are deserving people, and you pretty much saved their lives, as they knew it.

Of course, Marie sends her thanks.
She's kind of shy & humble about it all, but deeply appreciates all the help.

Thank you but it is all due to those that donated, and assisted in other ways as well, that really made this happen.

Rocky was instrumental in organizing and seeing that every penny and peso donated got to Marie. for taking her shopping and encouraging her and her family and helping others to get to her so they could deliver gifts....like DR Loca for example
Dr Loca !!!
(imagine a lone traveler, carting multiple duffel bags plus her own luggage, from abroad, landing in Punta Cana and then by bus to Sosua! i don't know how you did it but you have my admiration! )

Many others made generous donations of money and goods and took the time to visit Marie and her family. others helped in equally important but less visible ways.

many thanks to you all.

working together we've done a great thing! hopefully we will continue in the future as others come to our attention that need assistance.

Default 6 months have come and gone,

And it's about time that I got off my lazy butt and get on out there to see the progress.
Dafishguy and I just got back and we're waiting for him to download all the pix.
So I'll give the progress details here and post the pix shortly.
Let me first say to all of you who helped, that her present status is..
.
Better than it ever was when she lived in that little wooden shack.
The portion of the new house that is livable, is already bigger than the previous house/shack.
They have a finished cement floor now, in that portion and roof all over.
Apart from some odd 100 blocks and 15 bags of cement for the rest of the floor, they would have the main structure finished.
They even already have a couple of louvered windows, and bit by bit, getting it all done.
When y'all consider how little they earn, and that they have kids, it's almost unbelievable that they continue to make progress, but they do and most importantly...
They're happy and very thankful.

Pix to follow shortly.
