I've seen this happen before.
Yahoo messenger not wanting to sign in, and when signed in, going offline for a short while then coming back, as well as difficulty getting into Yahoo mail.
Someone somewhere eventually fixed the problem, and when the techie phoned you, he made you feel like he attended to your particular account's problem, while the truth is that everybody was suffering the same inconvenience.

Chat log at 3:08 PM today between myself and a buddy.

If we were having the same problem in Sosua that you had in Moca, it must have been at the national level.
I would have no problem believing they weren't honest with me, however, this is one of the very few times that they have said it wasn't "una averia en general" and the first time they ever called me back to say they reset my IP.

I figured that they had done a convincing snow job on you, which is why I posted my chat log.
Seeing's believing.

This problem with getting into certain sites has been here for months. I found two ways around it.

First, for example if you are logging into Yahoo mail and cannot get in go to Yahoo, or any other extension of Yahoo.

Second, use different web browsers. If IE cannot get in, try Firefox, or Slim Browser, etc.

No way this is any individual problem. This is a problem for the whole country, as Rocky stated.

The problem is with teh DNS serevrs. When the communications of packets goes back and forth, DNS lookups are being made. If the DNS servers do not work properly, the reuqests take long time to resolve (or do not resolve at all) resulting in long times to access websites, or even page not found problems. The solution is to switch to other DNS provider, such as opendns.org
On their website, it is clearly and easily explained (including pictures) on how to change DNS settings on various operating systems.

In Puerto rico amost 98% of the Interconective lines are Fiberoptics!!!!! Since 1992 PRT own back then by the commonwealth of Puerto rico has invested heavily in making Puerto rico the most advanced in telecommunications in latin america. Just to let you know Norma DSL here is 5 MB wireline and Claro wireless broadband is up to 3 MB and Centennial is up to 4 MB and Broadband Onelink Cable company 5 -10 MB and this is Residential you could switch to business plans like centennial up to 18 MB. One thing for sure is that PRT has a Partnership with Canadian Nortel for almost 10 years most systems from PRT are Nortel and Lucent the best in the Markets. Intenet service in the D.R in reliability and speeds are non comparable to Puerto Rico or some other countries in the area like Panama, Cayman Islands, U.S-Brittish virgin Islands are way ahead of service in the D.R they always tell me that the D.R has the best communication in Latin America that is not true. Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Neighboring Puerto Rico they are way more advanced!!!!
Since when the 76.93 sq mi of San Juan became the entire territory of Puerto Rico??
Get your data straight...
I'm familiar with PR's current telecommunication infrastructure, and no where other than in San Juan have full FO taken the load from the still going copper trunks... As a matter of fact, some areas of Metro San Juan are still serviced only via copper by the Telcos. The services there are limited to ADSL and no optical carriers have made any attempt to link them yet...

On the other hand, the DR deploys nation-wide trunks in full OC and even remote locations are wired by the newer technologies than Metro cities due to high costs. Yet for all this, San Juan is a very good example of how to deploy top technology without disrupting the current as the work advances.
Verizon take heed**

All The countries you listed have relatively better deployment of new technologies in the Metro cities, but ALL lack nation -wide coverage as the DR does... Until the gap between a half lollypop and a full wrapped one becomes shut, the DR enjoys the MOST advanced national deployed telecommunications system as provided and argued by your post...

It will help, until Verizon makes the plug from the FO trunk link to the server he switches to. I think it'll take some 2 to 3 months for the link to be completed.

Outer rings will be switched to the FO trunk first, and then the big chunk of Metro cities will follow...
On the bright side (if there's one for this) your ring will be among the first to go full FO!!

With Verizon there's little to be happy with nowadays...

Sometimes, even the very yahoo has problems in their mail system. So in that case I try logging via mail.yahoo.de or similar and it usually works fine.

Which DNS numbers are you using these days, Rubio?
I'm using 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 and it's working better than just leaving them open.
