Independence day in the DR

Hola! Could someone tell me what happens on DR Independence Day? Parties? Traditions? Parades? Any experiences will be appriciated!!!!

There is usually a military parade on the Malecon in Santo Domingo. It is really just another day off to party from what I have experienced.
Here are a few pictures of a parade a few years ago.
