Your new doggy companion will require some return love from you.
You live in a second floor apt? You are required to uphold YOUR end of the agreement concerning the love and care of master/doggie....doggie/master.
1. Master MUST get up and "walk" doggie at 6 AM. (After the withholding of water training, walkies beome an expected and normal event that is "fun". Do not withhold water more then 2 hours.)
2. Master does not do #1, it is Masters' fault and Master must clean it up.. and not get mad. Rubbing doggies noise in "it" only makes master feel like a fool. Doggie has no clue. Take doggie out and praise... (treats are nice)
3. IF walkies is at 6AM, Noon, 3PM and 7PM, Master must do walkies at... when ever I wish after hours.
4. Doggies WILL BARK, that's my job, at any time and for any reason that I want. It does not matter what you hear.. It's about what I hear.... my job.
5. NO MATTER WHAT, be consistint with me. Same words, same time, same hand movements, same.. everything.
6. You treat me good????? I will be your friend until one of us dies. Promise.
Others may be able to help. Ringo

Holy s__t! 6a.m.! I was thinking more like at least 7:30 a.m. as I'll be taking him out right in front of the house around 11p.m. or so. Well, like you said, it will be my fault. No more renting DVD's and watching them until 3 a.m. (lol). Guess I'll be taking naps during the day as well. Yes, consistency is everything. Didn't see any treats at the supermarket yesterday but will keep looking elsewhere. By the way, it's the second level of a two-family house, not an apartment per se. But seriously, I'm going to have to work out a better schedule for myself because with the business that my husband has, he doesn't even get home until midnight or later every night. I can't sleep until he's home so I'm up very, very late. Then when he gets home, we have our talk time and then a movie (or at least part of one). Like I said, more naps for me during the day so I can wake up very, very, very early from now on. It'll be worth it though. Can't wait.... now I'd better go get a little nap. Thanks for everything everybody. I'll keep you posted.

Should I tie his leash to something so he has to stay in one small area where I make a bed for him? Or should I put him outside on the side porch (has bars so he can't get out and nobody can get in and take him). Just wondering because he'd be so far away and might be lonely. That's more than one question. But do you have any suggestions about this?

First, don't get uptight about training him to wee outdoors: if you get uptight it will convey itself to your companion. Train him, yes, but expect a few accidents to start with. No big deal, easily moppable - I assume you have tiled floors & not carpets........? Put newspaper down near front door, you'll probably find that if he needs to go in the night he'll use the paper. This leads to associating paper-wee-door-out etc. Put his bed wherever it will be permanently & that is where he sleeps. He might whine a little for first few nights to get into your bedroom, but he sleeps where his bed is. Don't tie on, no.

Don't believe everything you are told . The dog will fit to your routine which will become his, over time. Our new puppy arrived last November aged 3 months, now 7 months. She can retain urine from 2am until 9am (we're late night people too) with no problem. Older dogs usually have more control than puppies. Initially there were a few overnight wees on the paper, by January we didn't need paper any more. If you get a bark at 4am you have to respond if the dog wants to go out - lots of praise for alerting you. Our little madame tried the 4am routine but it was 'I want to play' not 'I want to wee'. She was advised not to do this....................
You'll find your dog really wants to do the right thing & please you. Ours are in house with garden & access to garden all day but not at night so our circumstances are different, but our puppy's foible is showing her displeasure when BushBaby leaves home early for golf & I'm still asleep. That is when she eats the rattan furniture................we're working on it. She's now transferred to the zipper on her cushion - she likes to unravel the metal wiring. On toilet training, though, she's perfect .

this I do not know. The little ones had been found by a neighbour 4 weeks
ago in the behind part of our living-urbanisation in cabarete, "thrown away".
Meanwhile they are in very good condition, examined, vacunated and
absolutely lovely. As I already have two big dogs (they are now good
uncles for the little ones) and a little guesthouse, I cannot held all here.
Maybe Judy from the AAA Sosua (she did all vacuncations etc.) now can
say a little more about the possible breed. Judy,s Phone:

They're purebred Dominican super doggies!
I wish I could take one but I already have my hands full with my own purebred Dominican super doggie here in Santo Domingo.
Someone please step up. Sabra and whirleybird are saints.
for the record a Dominican purebred super doggie is a dog whose mother is on good terms with most male dogs in her neighborhood. It can be a mixture of any dog breed on the planet. It is usually smart, loyal, affectionate, playful, tough and the best burglar alarm in the world. The DPBSD will never be recognized by any kennel club. IMO they're a bunch of snot beaked pecksniffs anyway
