Default Extended stay

I am planning to rent a condo in Caberete for six months starting in July of 08. What am I going to need other than my passport? Will i have to get a visa or anything else to stay there for six months?

"You are issued a tourist visa for 15 days normally upon your arrival at the airport, if you stay longer you have to pay a fine on departure, otherwise you can apply at the nearest DR consulate to you.
15 Days - 3 Months: $300 Pesos
3 Months - 9 Months: $500 Pesos
9 Months - 1 Year: $2000 Pesos
1 Year - 1.5 Years: $3500 Pesos
1.5 Years - 2 Years: $4500 Pesos
2 Years - 2.5 Years: $6000 Pesos
2.5 Years - 3 Years: $8000 Pesos
3-5 Years: $12000 Pesos
5 Years+: $15000 Pesos"

i think that the tourist visa has now been extended to 30 days. i was just in SD for 25 days and didnt have to pay a fine on departure. i think the fines kick in after the 30 days but still well worth it if you ask me!

and when the period of the visa is finished, can you just renew it or you have to go out of DR?

Pay attention ilGrezzo! Divad (quoting Ladybird) has already answered that question. You cannot renew your tourist visa but you have to pay a fine upon leaving. The fine increases depending on how many days you have overstayed, but is a relatively small amount. Don't be surprised if you don't get a receipt. The guy who accepted my fine just put it straight into his back pocket without any pretence of formalities.

Hang deductively.

If you had to leave you wouldn't have seen 5 years+ in the post above. You don't have to leave, you just pay the fee when you eventually leave or make a trip out of here. Or, you apply for provisional residency if you decide to stay.

oops.........posting same time as london777.....
