10 bucks a day for food doesn't sound very much, even for street food. it would by far not include a juice with breakfast and lunch or a beer with dinner.

Hi thanks some folks for responses here. Ok I am trying end of the year or Janurary 2010 here to stay for awhile. Whats the longest I can stay on a tourist visa? I want to stay like from 4 to 5 months maybe 6 more or less. My Main base being Santo Domingo but Santiago seems tempting too. Now where in Santiago can I find a pension or room for 200 bucks or under? All I know of is the cheapies of 300 Pesos by Parque Valerio and a friend says thats a red light zone. I think on calle Cucurillo are other cheapies but more near 400 pesos. OK folks keep me updated on Sanato as well as Santiago. La Vega too is another spot I might be hopping from time to time,,Ok thanks on this if posible,,Rockero....

a 'cheapy' for 400 a night would add up to 12.000.- a month, that's actually a $335.- per month.
looks like the cheapies are over the calculated budget.
$200.- per month is just a bit over 7.000.- pesos per month, so you would look on cheapies of less than 250.- pesos per night.

When I first came here to live, just over 2 years ago my budget was $1000.00 CAD per month, that worked for around 8 months until I found a woman, then it cost me a lot more. My woman and I are still together, now my budget is around $80,000.00 RD per month (aprox $2,200.00). I have all my money invested here at 19% so I just live on the interest
