Default health care services in Dominican Republic

I do not know so much about Health care services in the DR... I have a friend living in the DR who has been in a recent car accident,,,He is now having problems with his hand ( I am not sure EXACTLY the extent of the injuries) ,,he has seen a local Dr ,and now this week has an appointment with a Doctor in POP ,and possibly will need surgury ... What is the Health Care system like ??? What services are provided to residents in the DR? Are employers flexible with time off for medical reasons???

If this is important, your friend should go to Santiago and see orthopedic specialists either in HOMS or Clinica Corominas or Dr. Enrique Anido in Centro Medico Cibao.

I would not play around with what is available in POP.

We can provide very good care, but only in the private clinics, not the public hospitals.
If this is your boyfriend, I am afraid he probably cannot afford really top of the line care, even if he has some sort of insurance. Employers are somewhat leery as to time off for employee injuries...for some reason the employees tend to abuse the privilege...

Default maybe i can help...

hey, I'm a certified hand therapist here in the U.S. and I thought maybe I could help with advice, therapy programs, etc. What type of hand problem is he having? Is it a fracture, a tendon problem or a neurological problem? I obviously can't help you with getting care there in the DR, but I may be able to advise and guide your friend once he has surgery, if that is what he needs. Also, I may be able to tell you if he even needs to see a specialist based on symptoms, etc. I can help him regain function of his hand with the right exercise, protocols, etc.

Sincerely,
Rebecca
