Sorry for the misunderstanding. I wasn’t asking those questions of you, but merely listing the questions I thought someone should consider in that situation.

After almost exactly one week, a Forum member who has written to the school has finally been able to report an answer from the director. The answer is positive in the sense that he indicates his interest in meeting me and hear the case again, but asks for time until after the presidential election(s) (?).

I would not be surprised that this was not the first mail they got from readers on here and I think that while this is potentially good news, anybody having been toying with the idea to write should not hesitate to do so in a non confrontational and constructive manner.

Thanks to the successful poster and to all other who have shown support!

I'll keep you all posted of the progress.

Sounds like you/we are making some progress. I have been, as you know, working in the background. Hopefully others can help insure an introduction and meeting soon.

As many of us know, it is sometimes difficult to turn "lip service" into action. Having back-ups may be needed.

I just came back home after having had a friendly and constructive forward looking meeting with the director of the Hess school in El Batey de Sosua.
This much to the credit of the direct help from a couple of dr1-Forumites and a pesonal friend of one of them who also is friends with the director and has 3 children at the school. The director also acknowledged having received some e-mails about he case (thank you who ever you are!).

Anyway, we had a long positive discussion which led to the proposition of the director to see Melanie coming Tuesday to have her evaluated by a tutor to see how much work we have ahead to bring her up to speed to be ready to attend school from late August 2008 on.
We have also discussed the need of having her see a personal tutor for an hour or 90 minutes every 5 days of the week, right after school (12:45) to have her do her home work and give her guidance while doing so, because we all agree that there is reasonable doubt that she would be adequately supervised to do her homework at her home. Interestingly Hess school tutors are not allowed to give paid classes to Hess school pupils... which can make sense as it could create conflict of interest of favor among students and their teachers. So, we may have to find somebody in El Batey who is willing to take her in for an adequate fee.

Anyway, WE all here did move things into the right directions and e pa'lante que vamos.

I will keep you all posted as things progress!
