For the enthusiast
I’d like to know if there are any .357 semi-automatics being sold in the DR. Because of the restrictions made on public ownership of certain calibers, and ammunition, I have decided on the .357mag. ( more than 9mm, but less than the .40, .45 military only load. Is the 125 Gr JHP the only defense load or may I find 158Gr I dare not go any higher for fear of over penetration. If I cannot find a semi-auto in .357, is 9mm +P, +P+, or cor-bon ammo available for sale in the DR?

Well you can set your heart on what ever you want, it however so seems the law will still restrict you to a 9mm or a shot gun.

I was under the impression 9mm,.357,.380, 38... on down, were by law permited to the general public?

That's a weird combination, but possibly Dessert Eagles would make a semi-auto chambered for the massive .357 round. I believe the law is more about firepower than caliber. In saying that, yes a 9mm is close to a .38 in measuring diameter but stopping power a .357mag is greater than a 9mm and .40 caliber. +P+?? Jeesh, what are you hunting for? 
Now if you are able to get your hands on a 10mm or .45, could you register it??
Now if you want to skirt the law, see if you can get your hands on a SigSauer P250 9mm, you can easily convert it to a .357 SIG, .40 & .45 cal.

I believe that if you want Semi-Auto with a "kick" to it, then opt out for a 10mm or the DEagle chambered for the .44Mag or .50AE. Be prepared to pay mega bucks for the 10mm, .44 & .50. Many enthusiasts shoot their own reloads.
Note: the .50AE is not the massive 500S&W, you'll find in Smith & Wessons or BFR.

Yes, I am aware of the Sig not being MAG, but the general public in Dominican Republic are forbidden to own .40 or more so that is why I opt. for the .357SIG (Compact of course ). I just wanted to know if they and the ammo are available here in the Dominican Republic. Come to think of it, I'd still like to know the law on reloading your own here too!

You referenced the .357mag in your first post, so I thought you were looking for Mags only. But I believe the law states no more than a 9mm and if that's the case in regards to stopping power vs. diameter, then both the .357 SIG & Mag are out. I am also curious to know. sooner or later one of the DR gun owners will chime in. Didn't mean to get carried away.

Ok, so do you think the .357 SIG is here to stay, or limited like the 10mm? Do you also think the price for ammo is too high maybe for target? Would a lesser grain be prudent for target? I
