Most likely she will be happy to be living in the city.

Do you recommend a particular campo? Maybe one known for their "children loving" women? JAJAJA

So, I have a few prospects @ this time... 3 YOUNG girls from campos and one woman in Santiago, all come "recommended"
I am leaning toward a sister of a friend of my best friend. But have told them that I will meet everyone when I get to Santiago.
If I choose one of the young ladies from the campo, she would live with me and they range from 17 years old to 19 years old.
I told the sister of my friend's friend that whoever was hired would be required to go to school during the day because my children would be in school and there would be nothing for her to do during the day, and that I am very big on education...I would pay for the schooling.
I saw on the other website that Anna recommended I read that the average pay is 7,000RD - 8,000RD per month with other perks included.
It is kind of different for me because I will be home with my kids and I would only expect her to maybe do laundry, dishes, cook several times per week (only because I need to learn to cook Dominican food )and watch the kids if I want to go run errands or go out, and of course act as me when I am out of the country. The good thing is that when I am out of the country, my best friend will be going frequently in those 5 days to make sure that all "is well". And of course...keep up with her schoolwork if I pay for school.
So do you guys think that 6,000RD per month is okay if I pay for the school (including any school related necesities), her clothes, her transportation to and from her home on the days that she is "off" and wants to visit home, and a prepaid cell phone with a predetermined amount of minutes per week?
Is that too much or too little? Or just right?
I know that it won't be just right, because I still think like a gringa
LET ME KNOW
Thanks so much for everything guys.....

Don't forget she will need a late model Yipeta to get to and from school, preferably a hybrid, in her choice of color.

Shalene, you don't need to give her a cell phone, it's not necessary, if she needs to make a phone call, home phone it's more than enough. You don't need to pay her a private school either, she can go to the nearest public school if it not too far.

I have always been told that the public schools are horrible, and regarding the cell phone, I was thinking about that for more along the lines of me being able to get in touch with her when she is out of the house.
But let me know what you think, because I don't know what the norm is there...
Thanks,

Por eso es que este pais no avanza, primero se quejan de la pobreza extrema que reina aqui pero cuando llega la hora de la verdad es mejor mantener al pobre e ignorante asi mismo, claro asi siempre nos proveeran con su trabajo barato. (This was not intended to the OP).
Shalena, I find what you are doing very interesting and noble, sending the campesina to school is a very class act,the only problem you may find is that they will be too old to be accepted in any private school, it would have to be to a liceo or a special private school. When you select the lucky one, be sure to keep the others in stand-by, you never know if things are going to work out.
When I say lucky one is because you are going to give her a little more than average, that is not necesary bad but you have to be careful, when you hand out the cellphone to her tell her is not her cellphone, that is yours and she got that one assigned to her, in that way she will take care more of it and its minutes. Besides if you change of girl you won't have to buy a new one.
Best of luck in the process of moving here.

Thank you so much...
I was wondering if that would be a problem (the age) because the one that I am leaning towards is 17. She has been out of school for a year (at least).
About the cellphone, I will do that, and make sure that she understands that it continues to be my property.
I think that this is an opportunity not only for me but for a young lady to have a chance at least at bettering herself.
Maybe she will think "Hey, look at this lady with three kids and how she is progressing on her own skills and education"
If she doesn't and becomes just another housekeeper even in 10 years, she won't have anyone to blame but herself.
I always try to do good by good people, you know?
