No sir, you are confusing the ipkall.com with gizmo5.
ipkall number will expire if you don't use it for a month. People were using ipkall (washington state number) with gizmo5. Now that google voice has come into the game, people have switched on to google voice + gizmo. The reason being: you can choose an area code in google voice as opposed to ipkall (washington state # only). The magic of gizmo is that you can program it on a sip device (ex: linksys pap2-na). Now you have a free vonage type setup and the laptop doesn't even have to be turned on.

I did indeed mean that my telephone number currently associated with GIMZMO5, which is currently an ipkall number had probably expired. I will have to look at making the association now with GoogleVoice instead.
MagicJack can also be used with an XP thin client and be left on all of the time. An option I don't currently require.

Some how my post must have been confusing. I already have 3 magic jacks. I am in NY. The person at our house in La Romana has a magic jack in their hand. When doing my research on magic jack I realized that in order for it to work so that I (from NY) can call the DR, there needs to be high speed internet at the house in the DR. Currently there is not. We've had it in the past (the kind that makes your land line busy) and I am now currently looking for some information on companies and rate info on internet that 1. does NOT tie up the phone line 2. that would be compatable with the magic jack

Ok..lol....
My plan is with Codetel (In Santiago) VIP Flash 256/128 kbps. It includes unlimited local calls, all kind of features (voice mail-caller ID-call waiting-conference, etc) unlimited internet and the MJ works perfect....
I paid $RD2,208.00 pesos with tax included. They also have some other plans at a lower price....
Codetel, comunicacin sin lmites
809-220-1111
There should be some more information on companies and rate from other posters...

The Codetel "Caller-ID" is costing you an extra $70 pesos a month Lucille.(Plus 28% tax) lol
With all taxes, my bill comes to +/- $3,200 pesos per month. I have a higher speed.
