analog / digital tv boxes Sosua

We just got back for our regular 6 month stay here in Sosua. Cable Atlantico has changed form analog to digital service or receiver boxes (I'm not sure which). Because we are told there are not any digital boxes available now we still have our old analog boxes and the service is terrible. We don't know if it is a problem with the old boxes (service) or a problem with us. Getting an answer is not easy. Any input would be most appreciated.

have you disconnected wires and cleaned the end that pokes in with wire wool or some such thing - me very technical lol

Sometimes the input is perfect (as perfect as it can be for an analog box) and then other times we have nothing for hours and hours so it doesn't look like the wire connections are the problem - also they look clean. Thanks for the suggestion.
