Default Help...all about a girl

I am an Officer in the U.S. Navy and recently had the incredibly good fortune to visit Santo Domingo aboard my ship. While I was visiting, I met the most beautiful woman with the most amazing smile & I HAVE to find her. We met Tuesday evening the 13th of August 2002 at the Montecristo Cafe (Plaza Concordia, Ave. Abraham Lincoln). I don't have her last name or a phone number but I absolutely have to find her. Her name is Adrienne and she is 22 years old. At the tender age of 30 myself, I'm not prone to going ga-ga over a woman -- there was just something about her. I haven't a clue how to track her down other than maybe a classified ad in the personals section (provided the Santo Domingo newspaper has personals). If anyone has any ideas how I might find this beautiful Angel, please let me know.

The night was absolutely perfect and I only wish I could leave it at that and walk away. Being your average thick skulled guy, I have to know if there is something more. I appreciate any and all advice anyone might give me. Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
A lovestruck Naval Officer

Default Mercy?

I do not ask for mercy, only help. For those that do not wish to help, c'est la vie. For those that do, my sincerest thanks.

I can't believe this is a serious request. But if it is, be forewarned you are not going to get the information that you after on this board. It is not uncommon to get requests--usually from girls with stars in their eyes--for help in finding that handsome guy or beautiful girl that they saw/met while in the Dominican Republic. Such requests yield a lot of responses, but without help or sympathy for the lovesick person who made the request.

But don't be too concerned. Santo Domingo is full of "beautiful women with the most amazing smile." As a navy officer on a ship, you've no doubt had the opportunity to visit many countries. For sure you have noticed that the people in some countries are better looking than those in others. The DR is blessed in this respect, the people are handsome. Especially the women.

With respect to Adrienne, why didn't you find out her name and phone number if she made such an impression on you? The fact you didn't shoots holes in the image that I had of young naval officers.

Default I'm a knucklehead.....

Ah, directly to the heart of the matter. I have been on active duty for 14 years and hit ports all over the world and never has any woman managed to affect me like this. There was something about her I just cannot put into words. I do not ask for sympathy, only ideas. If someone has a constructive thought as to what I might do, it takes merely a minute or so to type a response. And I agree that the Dominican Republic is certainly blessed with more than it's fair share of beautiful women.

As for your image of young Naval Officers, we are not always suave and debonair. My only defense is that I completely blew it. Our goodbye was somewhat hurried by her friends and we had made plans to have lunch on my ship the following day. It was my intention to get her last name, number and address at that time. I waited during lunch but she never showed. Later, I would realize my mistake. I made the mistake of only notifying the American security personnel she would be coming and not the local security. I was told that many people had been turned away at the gate before reaching the American security checkpoint.

Of course this does not prove she even showed up but I would certainly like to believe she did. Just because I'm not suave & debonair doesn't mean I have no ego.

Anyway, in a nutshell it comes down to one issue. I am a knucklehead.

you should have got her name and phone number and Ken is right you will get a lot of suggestions but likely no help.

You know that stuff will draw you further than a howitzer will blow you.

Beauty is in the mind.

If you are still in the DR, NavyO, you might consider going back to the cafe where you met here. With luck, she'll be there again or perhaps you will recognize someone who was with her. If you are no longer in the DR, I really don't think there is much you can do other than kicking yourself for not getting her name and phone number when you had the opportunity.

One thing that I wouldn't do is put an ad in the newspaper. You will get a tremendous number of responses from "Adriennes" eager to hook an American who will get them out of the DR (many of whom are likely to be very good looking).

Unfortunately, the day we were to have lunch was the last day in port and I could not leave the ship (standing duty). So, yes I have been doing quite a bit of self-kicking the past 3 days.

As for the possibility of a newspaper ad, I also thought a strong likelihood of multiple responses. Which is why I keep most of the discussion between Adrienne and myself to myself. There are things that no one else would know regarding our conversations that would easily identify her.

Interestingly enough, her beauty was only a small part of it. Her smile, personality and that certain je nes se qua made it complete.

Since I have 5 more months at sea before returning to my home port without another visit to the Dominican Republic, I still have plenty of kicking time left. I think now virtually every facet of my colossal idiocy has been layed bare. At least let it be a fable of sorts. I honestly wish no one else to make such a mistake.

I will find her though. Maybe a vacation to the DR upon my return home in January might be in order.

If she still has the same hold on you in January, I'm sure you'll be back. Let us know how the story ends.

Good luck, NavyO
