going topless in the dr

tried it, was okay, but i noticed that when i was on the beach at playa dorada resort, the locals selling souvenirs on the beach didnt even bat an eye, and one was sitting on the edge of the lounge chair. i know they see it all the time, but i was told that the locals really dont appreciate it. what about the women? are they offended? cuz i know ive never seen a local topless.

There's usually no problem going topless in the DR. I find the guys get more carried away at the disco than they do at the beach. The women are ok with it also.

You will not see a local go topless.

Maybe they have a little more respect? Maybe they find it disgusting? Maybe they have higher values?

It's also a way of setting yourself apart from the tourists.

Personally, after seeing some of the sites on the tourist beaches, I would make it illegal to go topless

Well. this is my firs reply to anyone so I hope Im in the right section...In 5 years... I have never seen a Local topless on the beach... although they certainly could blow away any tourist I have seen in a blink of an eye...... right guys...........Hey.. most are religeous to a fault......but....... They have...the Faces of Angels.... and ASSES like Hookers.......not their fault... they are just made that way...................OVER and OUT....... am I supposed to sign.. A tan line can be much more sexy than an overall tan as CC indicated.

This is very strange, they are the ones walking all over the beach topless. Everyone else tries to cover up when walking around.

Kunky to answer your question, no, dominicanas do not get offended or have any reason to feel uncomfortable because of people going topless. They are sophisticated enough to ignore it. They may not like it, but have learned to accept it.

in regards to women looking for attention going topless, i dont think this is why, most europeans are accustomed to this, and as for myself i had never gone without a shirt, most of all a bra all my "developed" years, so for me to take a top off and bare all, let me tell yu, i didnt get off the chair, nor walk around. like i said, i tried it, and wont do it again. yes, i agree, tan lines are sexier, but as for attention seekers, nah i dont agree on that one at all. attention seekers will most likely go topless in a country where it is not acceptable, our standards are so opposite of europeans, that if a woman wants to shock someone, it certainly wont be in a country where half the tourists are already braless. cheri

I can usually tell if a topless woman is from Europe or Canada/US. Canadian and/or American women, generally speaking, look around constantly to see if anyone is watching them. They will often strut their stuff to the pool in comparison to the Europeans who almost always put their bathing suit top back on before walking around. Europeans are usually more discrete and classy with this practice. At the Casa Marina Reef, I once watched an American woman who repeatedly rinsed herself off in the cold outdoor shower at the pool. After she kept checking herself to make sure her nipples were erect, I even observed her pinching them a few times, all the while looking around to see who was looking at her. Well, you couldn't help but watch the little exhibitionist. Too funny!! However, I'm all for leaving something to the imagination, as seems to be the case with the Dominican People.
