I'm not sure if the DR will ever openly admit that the sex trade is so prevalent on the Island.

Default Since many of the prostitutes working in Germany are Dominican,

this will mean that they have less money to send back here!CC

Chris,

In order to tax something, you have to legalize it first and that wont happen in the DR.

Aside from that, I dont know what you mean by "Hope for the DR". Do you mean that doing what the articl reported would cut down on prostitutuion or help alleviate the countries financial problems? It would do neither.

I'm sure the thread title was tongue in cheek, but Chris probably meant it would help the economy.

Well, since 99.9 % of the prostitutes are "freelancers" anyway, it would not make a damn bit of difference. It's not like legalizing it and subsequently taxing it would make all these hookers seek employment in the brothels where they would have to give some of their earnings to the House.

Like I said it would never happen in the DR anyway. One reason is the Catholic Church.

Yes Larry, but the draw for prostitutes working in the brothels in places like Germany and Holland are the free health care and other rights the women are given by the government. Not that this will ever happen in DR, but in a perfect world, its the reason women would rather work at a brothel in these countries, rather than freelance.

Unhappy I have Always Believed That ...

If the United States or any other country were truly interested in eliminating prostitution, they needed only to nationalize the industry.

Governments can't seem to run anything else at a profit and I am sure even sex would succumb to the weight of inept bureaucracy and vanish for forever more from the face of the planet.

Default Geez! Do I have to explain everything.

Title - Tongue in Cheeck! Wink Wink!
Content - The Sex Trade is Prevalent in the DR - Here is what one other city is doing to create revenue from the Sex Trade that is also prevalent in their neck of the woods. Thought this post would elicit at least one smile.

This is not serious! Please somebody, smile! Let your creativity (this is a right brain activity) go - imagine creating additional tax dollars by taxing the sex trade in the DR...
