What power?... we're all dupes
Lambada, chuckuindy, et al... as the title portends :)
I was in a deep Schopenhaurian funk the other evening, and, oops, am in another one now. I agree with Zorbabr.
Have fun with perceived ideas of power, because nature cares nothing for the individual, only the species. We're all the dupes of nature.
We have trouble with this notion because we have attained to a rudimentary consciousness. And I do mean rudimentary... we were granted Ferrari brains without our driver's licenses, hence the grand scale devastation humans perpetuate upon each other. As I said, barely out of the cave.
And always, death looms; the difference of a year or ten or fifty is not a grain of sand on the grand scale. The striving for power is a way to avoid death, metaphorically.
70 year olds with 20 year olds is the same. But so what? Only rarely do we escape our supreme fascination with self... most human actions can be accounted for by primitive forces, if one looks below the surface.
With respect to power and who needs whom... bull**** to all of it. There's only one way to get along in life, and that's to be comfortable in one's own skin and content with oneself. Because, in reality, you're all you've got. You may find the greatest love of your life and tomorrow he or she is gone, because... nature cares not for the individual.
Schopenhauer has been massively criticized as the ultimate pessimist for his view of humanity. I strongly disagree, because I see awareness of our true state as the best possibility for change, for evolution.
It's with compassion that I see loneliness and fear of death as driving factors-- of course! It is difficult to imagine our own non-existence. (Religion has always been a grand way of avoiding that gaze.
And although the motives may be inherently selfish, many humans do wonderful things for others, we are able to offer some comfort to each other in the loneliness that must accompany this unavoidable knowledge of death. I just hope that one day, with evolution, our motives exceed ourselves.
I won't live to see it; I wonder how many thousands of years it will take, if we do not self-destruct first.
No matter. As long as I'm alive and sentient, I'm glad for it. And I like to laugh at those ostriches who are judgmental because they refuse to acknowledge our grand predicament. Once acknowledged, it's conceivable to reach for some real compassion and love toward humanity, with all its warts and foibles. Hell, we're on a rock hurtling through space. We're here together amidst the greatest mystery imaginable.
Go for that power. Enjoy it. Ask Caesar how he likes his.
I'll get back to the laughter now. :)
Optimistically,
dawnwil

What do you men think, that only YOU can cheat? Men who have the mentality you do have a beautiful woman by their side, and they usually have a NICE man ON the side!
Dont get me wrong, I'm all about having a 'happy' camper at home, and that means doing many things that 'Americanized' and others may think is outdated and or can be viewed as demeaning. But, as long as I am happy doing it and there is the same attention coming back somehow, then is all good.
1. The man may be the head of the household, but the women are the neck and we can point the head wherever it needs to go.

Okay, it time for a reality check here. First men do not need to earn love and respect. We are the provider of all, to those select women who know how the game is played. What’s love got to do with it? All we really need in life is, air, food and water. Oh, men also need sex. Do you think that if there were only human men on this planet and only female chimps that the human male would be celibate, let alone monogamist?
Sure women cheat; they cheat on their wimps of a husband and boyfriend. They don’t cheat on Powerful Men because they know where their bread is buttered and they know that their man loves them, even if he loves a few other women at the same time.
I can see by your “happy camper” statement the real Dominican female is coming out in you. Keep him happy at all costs. No hang ups with you my dear. Who says sex is just for love. It’s strictly a physical itch that needs to be scratched and if you don’t scratch it there are plenty of women who will. Have you learned nothing from you previous work environment. You have seen the women throw themselves at Powerful Men. Even a jerks like David and Stuart have groupies.
As for, “The man may be the head of the household, but the women are the neck and we can point the head wherever it needs to go.” I think that Henry the eighth solved those kind of problems very well.
However, thanks for the advice. I will sleep on it next to one of my wives.

Ultimate Truth
Dawnwil, I think I understand where you are coming from ...
It's hard to get there...First we need to set our minds free from thousands of years of conditioning and lies we live in. Then may we will be able to understand what IT is, not what priests, politicians and our ego say about it.

With all due respect dawnwil....
This post is so unlike anything any of the women I know w/ come up with on a subject such as we're discussing. Very interesting....I think. Not sure if you're on our side or theirs. One thing is for sure, Nature does not cater to individuals, this I know, but for the life of me, I still don't know which side you're on. Charlie has a very big ego, please don't encourage him?
Charlie, I'm still your friend, but you're too weird.

Dawnwill is very cleverly weeding out the chaff.....
.....it is called "survival of the fittest". Quite apart from the fact that many who post on this Board have never heard of Schopenhauer, much less read him, she is ensuring that those who remain are up to the task. In other words, guys, she has turned the tables & assumed the power. Thus the men who remain to debate are those with the best qualities - intellect, humanity, sensitivity etc. ATTAGIRL DAWN.

Well I for one have never heard of this Shopenhanger guy (or is a female in drag?). But when I see what Dawnwill writes & the way she flaunts that hat of hers ..... my need to be a powerful man has NO bounds!! Fear NOT gentle maiden, like Samson my stregnth returns as my beautiful locks get longer. Just wait for that airplane runway down the middle to become a footpath & I'll be ALL yours!!! - Grahame.
