stalking...
Reading Planner's thread on a break-in in POP, ( POP Break in, I think I've found an answer to the question of why educated, self-sufficient, intelligent women fall for sankies and other lowlifes. It has something to do with social acculturation. They simply do not see that they are in reality being stalked as they operate in a social setting where stalking is done with 'love'!. So, possibly if one explain to those women friends in these situations that they are being 'stalked with a twist', they may understand what they are letting themselves in for, as North American women all clearly understand and are acculterated to the word stalking.
Any comments? Is there a Master's thesis in this comment for someone..

Chris, you're on the right track! Now let's come up with 10 or more signs of being 'stalked with love' to help identify and predict the situation.

that's not what it is!
sankification is possible as many women in the so-called first world are really hard up for some loving, some straight up romancing, quality-time spending, emotional food for hungered souls. now if nothing else, a sankie can provide the above. maybe the first world men should look at their deficiency and learn what women ALSO but not ONLY need, and it may put the less skilled of sankies out of a job

Chris, I think calling them stalkers is a good start because some people think that "sankie" means prostitute and "my guy" is no prostitute because he "loves me" " he's never asked me for money" ect ect.
So yes maybe we can come up with signs to watch for.

I agree. I pointed out to someone a while back that the "romantic" overtures of these guys would get an American guy a restraining order.

One thought (sign) that popped into my head is:
"listen, (1)you are a foreigner and (2)you know nothing about this country, (3)you can not trust anyone because (4)they all want to take advantage of you, (5)you can only count on me, (6)I will help you with EVERYTHING you need (7)because I love you and (8)I only want the best for you...."
See, with the above statement, the "seed" is planted and it will be "downhill" for some foreigners.
Remember people, some (note: some) dominicans have good "muelas", no matter the gender!!!!!

So, warning sign number one is to create dependence?

Absolutely!!! You're new to the country so you know nada. You'll have to depend on them.
Number two would have to be trust. How would he/she go about getting you to trust him/her?

Kinda an 'us against them' situation - resulting in alienating the women from her friends and support structure? while at the same time, making life easier for her, showing her where to find things, how to do things and above all, how to have a good time. Lots of thoughts in my head. These men take the fear away.

Back in the days when I had the patience for it...........I would advise women in this position to see how their 'dishonest broker' for want of a better word, reacted to a foreigner who had lived here for a long time (& thus knew about sankie scamming). If the dishonest broker took a dislike to the experienced foreigner, for no apparent reason, voila............
