Cool Dominican dance

Ok, in the interest of asking something new....

My last time in the DR, I was at a club that was playing a mixture of Latin music... Salsa, Merengue, Bachata...

The women were very good at a particular style of dance. Rather hard to describe other than sensuous, fluid, with a lot of smooth, side-to-side hip movement....

It was not Salsa, Merengue, or hip-hop, but definitely a particular style and very interesting to watch. Besides what I have mentioned, what are the names of other dance styles popular in the DR?

who could dance the hokie pokie and make it look the way you described!
Could be bachata. Was it "plinky plink" music? I'm chuckling now thinking about the stuff Rockey posted about that.

Sure! And I know Reggaeton doesn't have it's own dance. This sounds alot like Salsa but then I wouldn't know.......I can only Merengue. You should ask N.C. about this one.

Default dance

Bachata has a 4-step rythme.. side to side or back and forth.. at the 4th count you lift your outside hip.. at least those are the basics..

If you advance you'll notice that it's actually a figure 8 with your hips and thsoe of your partner.. you connect on the 4th count..

The big difference with Merengue is that it has a two step rythme left/right and is much easier to maintain.. no hip lifting..
