If you don't have connections in Santiago or the Capital, you will be either sitting and drinking alone in clubs (nobody goes out clubbing alone) or you will be sitting and drinking with girls in Car-Washes and Hooker joints. At least in Sosua, you can hook-up with fellow americans and europeans and have something to talk about and they can show you the best of Sosua, Cabarrete, & Puerto Plata.

It appears that way, but Sosua, Cabarete and Puerto Plata are all next to each other, but if this is your first time in the DR, you would rather have an ex-pat show you the ropes rather than an english speaking deporte, who is just out for your money. If you are considering staying for 3-4 months, like you've previously posted, use Sosua as a base, rent out a furnished apart-hotel, hang out at Rocky's and other ex-pat spots, be cool , BUDGET your money, travel around and learn for yourself, believe me, many of the gorgeous women are actually from outer and smaller towns, but they are living in the cities for opportunities, like education and employment. You have a chance for a great learning experience, if you play it smart. Partying in the DR gets real tiring after a week, I've seen guys burn out in 4 days, develop a plan on what you want out of the DR, make good use out of your time over-there.

An ex-patriate is someone temporarily or permanently residing in a country other than that of their own.
