Why is it that only single tourists in resort always seem to find friends in a week's time? I rarely see men saying they met some bartender or a animation team member as a good friend?
The people who live here 24/7 all say the same: "stay away from resort employees and staop falling in love with them. If these people are not good enough for their own people, what benefit you think you would seek out of their freindship? We are no dummies here, the residents, we have been through the stages you are passing through now. we also found these people to be very friendly and supporting. As time will pass, you will realize that few of them are any good. They bring nothing but problems and they will only introduce to the lowest of the lowest socio-cultural values of this country.
Now if you feel right at home with these people, then go ahead and find your destiny with them but please don't bore us with your exciting new ghetto discoveries of finding the perfect mate.

Isnt being friends something completely different then a boyfriend??
Anyway i think friendships can be made very fast. When I was travelling in Guatemala etc. I met a couple of girls the first day (also tourists) and we were best friends within 2 days. We stayed with (a group of 4) for 3 months and we had the best time. So yes you can make friends within a week.
But in case of employees of hotels you have to remember it is their job to keep you happy and be nice to you.
I have lots of dominican friends (most of them kiters and/or kite instructors) and some from a hotel and a couple of rich dominicans and they are all great people. They were net all my friends within 1 week, but with 1 or 2 there was a click from the start!
Also, I see lots of (tourist)guys being very good with on of the guys on the beach (kitebeach).
Also i think in the dr they call eachother friends much easier, for example my boyfriend (dominican) if he talked to someone 1 or 2 times, he will to refer to him as 'a friend', i would just say 'a guy/girl that i know'

Jaded Research Suggestion From An Old Fart:

Ask your "friend" if he would like you to give him a "mamita."

If he declines, either he is gay or his other "friend" recently took care of him.

Please do keep us posted. Am just DYING to know ...
