Your story is entertaining but not unusual at all in the DR. 95% of all of the women you meet in the DR, unless you live their on a full time basis, are interested in money first. That is not to say that a more meaningful relationship can not develop later, but the chances of that happening are slim.

First you need to understand a little about the culture of the DR. Now I am no expert but each time I visit I get a better understanding. You need to understand this first. Dominican society has two casts, the "respectable" and the "poor". They don't mix, and poor people have almost no rights and little opportunity to advance in the social structure. Many poor barrio chicas will do are say anything to get a shot at a better life if only for a day. This does not make them bad people; it is the only mechanism they understand. Stay poor or use every sexual power you have to get a better life.

A vast majority of Dominican women in the barrio, loose their virginity between the ages of 14 and 19 years old. The first sexual experience for many comes from some Tiguere, cousin, or older man living in the same house. There is no love attached and is often very painful and humiliating. Additional sexual encounters are not much better. They are taken to cheap cabanas, shown little or no romance, and gain little more than a chance to get pregnant by someone who will not support them or their babies.

Remember this, the young women you meet with babies, born out of wedlock, become outcasts form real Dominican society. Their loose the right to marry to a "respectable" Dominican man. All that is left for them at that point is, resign to not get married, to marrying a poor, or marrying a foreigner. Many will end up as damas who congregate in church 4 to 5 nights per week praying for a miracle.

Please don’t get me wrong, I love barrio chicas they know how to have fun. Many will knock your socks off in bed and you will believe that they truly love you. Just be careful. It’s your money and your heart.

Some tell tale signs to look for in knowing you are with a barrio chica are:

She orders the most expensive thing on the menu.
She spends more time in the salon than she does with you.
The radio in your rental car is turned to full blast and she knows every word to every song.
Even though you do not speak a word of Spanish, each time she gets a cell call she runs away so you can not hear any of the conversation.
She never thanks you for anything.
You hear, Oh Poppy, more than 10 times per night.
Gifts from America or Europe are always better than anything you buy them in the DR.
The first day she says she needs money for milk and pampers.
She tells you that she wants to go to the institute to learn English.

Don’t be discouraged, Dominican women can be some of the most exciting women on the planet, but remember there is always some other chica who is better looking, better in bed, and less expensive, and available just for you.

When will you tourists actually get to meet the other dominicans? All you folks talk about is cueros (materialistic sluts - hookers- barrio trash-chopas). I guess some folks will never get to see and meet the real dominicans. I am amazed to see that the middle to upper middle class dominate the bigger cities like santiago and capital, yet the tourists still have no idea what I am talking about.
I often feel sorry for you guys when I see you hand in hands with cueros in boca chica and sosua. God help you all.

I personally see nothing wromng with a guy meeting a poor Dominican girl and spending a "little" money on her. However, the family dipping into a place, ordering drinks and leaving you with the bill?? FORGET IT. Gross disrespect for you. And the girl saying, "I want this, I want that"...it just goes back to you seeming like an ATM machine to her. Thats the problem. If you can find a nice girl who dosent expect you to take care iof her family and go crazy spending on her, I see no problem with you taking her out to eat and buying her little things.
