My wife, who is a teacher from the DR would beg to differ with those who say teaching is not a profession, but the reality is that it is not a high paying job in the DR. Top wages are in the 15,000-20,000 pesos for a fully qualified teacher that has had the good luck/connections to find that kind of job.
At Yris's school in Jarabacoa she pays anywhere from 6000 to 13,000 pesos per month for full time teachers, she also pays medical insurance for the teachers and their family. Teachers working in the public schools make a little more but their teaching conditions are much worse. Teaching is a vocation, not a profession.
