Ok miguel, you have a point. Now I feel bad. I must appologize to chip publically. My intentions were not meant to insult his wife. I don't know her.
My words were meant for the folks who think the beauty of a dominican woman only exist in barrios.
Now for JRF: you sound like a good fellow. I suggest you keep your options open. If you will get involved with a haitian in DR then remember, this country is not so keen on haitian nationals. They treat them badly as if they are equal to street dogs. I see this everyday. They tolerate poor haitians but a dominican just doesn't accept them as egual citizens in their land. She will always be looked down upon by dominicans and she will develop an inferiority complex. I personally have no problems with the working class haitians. I find them to be very religious folks who work hard everyday to make ends meet. Now there are some educated rich haitian students in PUCMM university, but believe me, they hardly look or act like your normal haitians.
I think you shouldn't put all your chips on one girl alone. Take your time and get to know people well. Then have your missile locked on the right girl.

Default does it matter?

Good luck to the OP. It probably doesn't matter that she's a Haitian living in the DR...nationality has less to do with your dilemma. You can have the same thoughts about anyone back home.

You menitoned that she's not a sankette - as long as you are are sure she isn't - and it doesn't sound like she is then you just plan to make your next move (whatever it is) when you feel right. It's just time that will tell. God only knows!

Kinda like choosing to be with a 'girl' from the barrio - who everyone else knows is a puta (not the good one).
I go to Mangu, as do thousands of other people, and because there are some putas in there it is the same as choosing to be with one or more of them (not that there is anything wrong with that)?

"you just aren't sure of where you are in life"
What is this supposed to mean and how does this support this seemingly ludicrous judgment?

Next move?
How about a first move?
She could be married with children by the time he asks her out for a first date.

No actually I have two younger brothers and my Dad's name was Abney. Remembering that show makes me realize how old I am and how times have really changed.

AZB - I am going to leave my options open and it'll be easy since I haven't done anything yet plus I am not in the mood or desire for a relationship yet-too much to do.

Chip-would love to hear about your experiences glad to read that things are going well for you.

Malibook,

I originally thought the same way you do. Just because I go to the disco have a few beers and talk to the odd puta but go home alone (or not) that is not who I am inside as a person.

What I have realized is that the people that I want to associate with do not go to the disco and to not associate with putas or go where they go.

I could try to change the way they see things and tell them I have no problem with a beer or two and am still a great person but what you DO is more important than what you SAY.

Henceforth I feel I must adjust to the views their as I am the guest.

Jrf

Sure - check out these posts #1 and #9 for a quick update on me:

Newbie Gringo Greetings

As far as having a few beers - heck I've been having a few beers just about every day now for the last 25 years! That's one reason I'm glad to be a Catholic - AND don't forget it's good for the heart too! I just don't go out to clubs because I'm already married but I don't mind getting together with a few friends for a couple of cold ones and un chin de merengue!
