Update on "Runaway Niece"
Greetings,
For all of those that have helped, comforted and given suggestions and advice with my "Runaway Niece thread" I wanted to give you an update!
seems to be "Trouble in Paradise" she has been in Punta Cana for 37 days, a week ago she called and said she was homesick and missed her family friends and "car"!
she pays $45 dollars a day to hang out in the resort her boyfriend works at, she says there is no work for her and is having trouble finding a job.
In 37 days she has managed to spend over $2000 on top of the $1000 she brought with her- via western Union,thanks to mom and dad!
A plane ticket was purchased today to come home, however chartered flights are booked and the earliest she can come home is at the end of the month.
As far as future plans?? well according to her , she will start the required paperwork to get her boyfriend into Canada.
Wish I could say there was a happy ending, but there's not!! However she is leaving him the car she bought with the "kick ass" stereo in it!!

Wish I could say something creative that could help, but of course there are no words. As parents we can only do so much, some times we do too much. Take care and hang in there. We raise our children the best we can, at some point they are on their own.

You are so right. Put her ON HER OWN. No more Western Unions, no nothing. She is being had big time. $45 a day to hang around, ridiculous.

Him coming to Canada chances are slim to none...she will probably spend another couple grand during the process, only to be rejected and shot down.
Unless of course they marry, that would cost a few grand for a decent wedding, paperwork on top of it etc...And this is the guy that said he never wants to leave his Country, he loves DR...but all of the sudden Canada is sounding pretty good?
