The men and women tourists who come down and fall in love "with a dream" all seem to have to learn the hard way. They've all been warned and many many others have posted the same warning on DR1. Luckily they will never get a visa for her/him to come to the States. Even if you married her/him they would not easily issue you a visa unless you had a child together.

As much as these love struck tourists say they have so much in common with their new lovers they don't anything in common unless you count a vacation romance. These tourists are generally older and from a different much different culture. These Dominican men and women are like a county fair fortune teller, they tell you what you want to hear and feed of you body language and responses. They get very good at it.

They perfect their persona to attract gringos. Some are better than others and far more loving but the fact is it is an act. They learn from all their friends the tricks to use to play on the love struck tourist. Like a good fisherman they wait to set the hook, try too early and you'll loose the fish.

Getting pregnant on purpose to speed up a visa process is the height of stupidity. Girls have told me that their guys have said that he wants to make a baby with them. It might get them a visa but unprotected sex with a resort worker has to be even more stupid. These guys are basically strangers. Think! I met a Dominican working in a hotel near Montreal. I asked him how he got a visa to Canada. His reply was "I made a baby." Not that he had married a Canadian girl, or fell in love - he said I made a baby. In the minds of these guys BABY= VISA. I have also talked to a few girls who are now raising Dominican babies on their own as Mr. Wonderful has now flown the coup. Enough said.

That's because these guys see babies as trophies. The more "trophies" they have, the more bragging rights.

I know a guy from the US who married a girl on the North Coast and it has been over a year and half and he still has not got her or their child to the USA.
