Why do we put up with it? Because we do the same thing, we're just a hell of a lot more careful and discreet about it. Both sexes do it, and why does it work? Because their significant other knows that it's purely physical. There's not emotional strings attached. Lke someone pointed out, it's lust, not love. At the end of the day, they're still with the one they truly love, even if they can't keep it in the pants, the guys, or keep their legs closed, the girls. And since they both do it, you can't really be hypocritical about it and acuse the other. Also, for alot of people, it adds drama to the relationship, which they love, because it keeps it exciting in some twisted way. That's just the way it is in society, and it's sometimes has nothing to do with economical or financial reason, because I've seen women who put up with it who don't have anything to lose if they leave. Unfortunately, it's sort of a who can out cheat each other game. And I'm strictly talking about when your young and dating or have a boyfriend or girlfriend. And I'm not saying that EVERYONE does it, just that sadly, the majority do. Cheating while your married is completely different. But then ask yourself: if the person allows it during the first stages of the relationship, then who are they to say 10 or 15 years down the road that they won't accept it? You've made your bed, now you have to lie in it.

Men can not cheat without women and women can not cheat without me. Given that, pick your lifetime companion wisely, in what ever country you find yourself. However, it might be too much for me in the DR. I am trying to make some dependable contacts, both male and female, who can meet a potential GF or wife and say, "Yea" or "Nay". I am on skype at everclear100 in the evenings. Oh, I want to work and live there, not just play and hopefully start a business.

evrybody saying that cheating is okay...is too selfish to actually work on a relationship, be able to control themselves and refrain urself from 'flopping' out what u hav in ur pants to strangers...

Discretion is definitely a point but there is a reason for everything.

the people saying that women cheat all the time dont know the dominican republic i know. you know, the one where women are macheted to pieces for even hinting at wanting to get a job? or looking in the direction of another man? yeah. sure, some women cheat there but for the most part they fear for their lives so they do NOT. its the men who cant keep their junk in their pants, ever. please do not lump all dominican women in the same category just because you know a few sinverguenzas.

What DR are YOU talking about...I went to Edenorte, Codetel, Orange, Aster, and my kids school all today and did not speak to a man once! These ladies are running things....where are you? NYC??? Or just several years behind?

I hear stories of both Dominican men and women in a relationship cheating on a regular basis and Shalena is correct. There are plenty of women bringing home the bacon in the DR. LOTS OF WOMEN RUNNING BANKS, BUSINESSES....ETC.

So if there are only a few women cheating in DR, why is it that there are Cabanas in every town in DR and they are always full? They never go out of business. They are also used almost exclusively by Dominicans not tourists. Those sinverguenzas are being over worked if we go with your reasoning.

If you've never been a Dominican woman living primarily in the DR then I guess you wouldnt know of the extremely oppressive and sexist undercurrent? I dont know where YOU have been. I lived there til just 5 years ago. Grew up there as well. Your "outsider" perspective is just that. People holding jobs do not equal "power". Eevn in the U.S. women have lots of nice positions, but they continue to be paid considerably less than men and are routinely objectified. The exact same thing occurs in the DR but on a more extreme level. Just because some have jobs doesnt mean there arent millions who are oppressed and physically and emotionally abused. Its an extremely chauvinist society despite whatever you THINK you see.

You are merely scratching the surface and speaking of it as if thats ALL it is.

As for the Cabanas, ummm its clear you are not aware of how things work. If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, you can't have sex at your parents house (which is most likely where you live when you are unmarried as per the culture) so therefore just about everyone in that kind of relationship (which is a helluva lot of people) goes to cabanas or hotelitos to get it on. They do not wait for marriage. Duh.

To suggest that most who go there are women cheating is plain stupid and shows how out of touch YOU are. Of course some will be that but MOST are average unmarried folks who have to have sex SOMEWHERE. So of course they are always full.

I love how a bunch of people who just went to live in DR a few years ago and have little knowledge of the underworkings of the culture say things so matter-of-factly.

Some of you are on point but others.....ni decir. Its ridiculous.
