I guess none of you are aware that at least 10 women are macheted to pieces or shot monthly in domestic situations due to "jealousy" issues. Many are murder-suicides. Most of the time, its unwarranted and the woman has done nothing but suggest some independence. Male pride can be an ugly thing.
If you didnt know that physical and emotional abuse is still considered "normal" and commonplace despite many attempts to instill anti-domestic violence programs, then you are painfully naive and out of touch.
If you didnt know that women are raised to be service oriented towards men (i.e.maids), take care of ALL household chores and kids even if they have a job and never question anything their man does, then you are severely out of touch. Eeven refusing sex to your husband is considered UNTHINKABLE---they own your private parts. Most women I know have been raped by their husbands and boyfriends time and time again and theres nothing to protect them.
If you did not know that women who cheat are often KILLED and the men usually get off scott free because the judicial system sympathizes with their injured male pride then you are living in la la land.
The dominican republic is beautiful in many ways and ugly in others.
None of you can tell ME, a 26 y.o. woman whos family is 100% dominican and who was raised in POP, that YOU know more about how it is for women in DR than me.
You are entitled to your opinions but not to your own facts.
I will never take false and grossly inaccurate portrayals of dominican women lightly, knowing what i know, what i was taught, what i have seen, what i have lived. Never.

tamborista, i dont recall you falling into the "DR1 a-hole" category but...if you say so? lol some mods urged me to continue posting. and i shall, clearly.
jdjones, no worries. i was BORN a feminist. i fought it as a child before i even heard of the word. being in the u.s. only cemented what i always said and knew. afterall, why would i feel it "normal" and "right" to be told by female family members that i should expect to be beaten if i dont comply with every and any male request. to quote Pee Wee: "I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel" lol

If you were brought up and surrounded by this kind of females, I really feel sorry for you. We just learned something about you and your surroundings, but not about real situation in the DR. I think you should talk to some normal Dominican women who don't expect to be beaten by their men in order to get some good examples and understanding. Or, maybe you need to talk to a counselor. Good luck!

Setting apart fact from fiction=the right thing to do. Simple. You reply with a smart ass tone, affirming things you clearly know nothing about, and thats what you get. Can't honestly be THAT surprised.....but if you are, nice to meet you! lol
As Tamborista noted, I had a brush with the local DR1 smartasses and now know to switch the smartass mode on as well. If you dont like it, maybe you shouldnt dish it out.

If you honestly think its some freak occurence you are also living in fantasy land. be it implied directly or just insinuated, it is ALL THE SAME. Just because YOU dont hear of it, doesnt mean they arent just hiding it. Thats how it works. Theres a culture of silence even if everyone knows. There are all the statistics in the world to prove it. Google it. Might learn a thing or two. A bunch of outsiders "denying" doesnt change the stark reality. Just because YOU dont see it doesnt mean its not there. Welcome to real life.
Studies have also proven over and over again that socioeconomic status doesnt change it or make it better either. Its everywhere. If anything, its known to be more hidden amongst the rich but very much rampant. Again. Do your research.
and lemme guess...youre not a dominican woman either? you just THINK you know. how charming.

Please explain your point once again. I don't think your post was understood correctly. POPNYChic said she was born and raised in POP. What do you mean by real situation in the DR? I don't live there but I do have many Dominican friends and their stories sound similar to POPNYChic not Everyone but some of their stories are similar.
