    Default "Dictionary" Of Sosua

    From today's Sosua News:

The author Omar Messón, he is one of the four members of the 'Thursday night writers collective' of Sosúa, has compiled a dictionary of our beach resort. Saturday, February 25, the special work will be presented to the press and everybody else interested. The 'dictionary' is actually a reference book about famous personalities born and raised in Sosúa and who have made a special contribution for the benefit of the community.

The book is filled with facts, anecdotes, descriptions of events that have a significant impact on the development of the beach resort. It's not a boring reference book, because the humor, Omar Messón affirms, is not lacking. The location where the presentation of this particular work will take place is not yet confirmed but is thought to be in a lounge in Sosúa Bay Casino.

A small group of literature buffs, writers, and as far as I know all native spanish speakers. What I've seen published is also in spanish, Ro. I imagine the dictionary will be as well. Not involved, just know a couple of 'em.

I'd like to know more about the older businesses in town, esp those that were founded by the refugees and are still around.

Go to the Jewish Museum if you haven't been, and connect the dots. Very few original families left, but still have major holdings. The kids are off in the US and Europe. The businesses in town don't mean much, it's the owners of the properties that remain constant. 100 years of history. And they still vote PRD.

Kudos to the author for what sounds like a very worthwhile project. I hope it succeeds.

However, "Dictionary of Sosúa" would seem to be an inappropriate and misleading title if the contents will be as described above.
