Going to Puerto Plata soon!!!

This is my first time posting on the board. Ive been lurking for quite some time. Im on my way to Bahia Principe San Juan resort on September 25th. I hail from Canada and have never been out of North America before. As you can imagine im very excited to go. I guess my questions is what should I expect from the weather this time of year? Has anyone ever been to this resort before and if so what are the pro's and cons? I did read the reviews section on the site and received a lot of unwaranted complaints and vague positive reviews. If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

I have never been but friends of mine went last year, it was also their first time to the DR. They said that they enjoyedm it and that the hotel was very big. Sorry for the lack of info.......
