Default Nightlife in Puerto Plata

Where are some of the "Hot Spots" in the the Puerto Plata area?
I went to PP last year and did all the " touristy stuff" now I would like to experience the Nightlife, good restaurants and enjoy the area a little more.
What would you suggest "off the beaten path"?
Thanks to All in advance

Just search the forum for "clubs puerto plata" or "discos puerto plata". Planner once listed the most important. I can recommend La Canita or Las Brisas de Camu in Monte Llano - I was the only gringo there :-)

VERY interesting washrooms in la canita.. quite the experience! lol But definately a nice place to dance for non-american music.. one of my favorites.

If what you prefer is more of a mix (bachata, merengue and US) try Crazy Moon or Hemmingways in Playa Dorada.

Default Crazy moon or Mangu

I came back from the DR about 3 weeks ago and was disappointed to find that Crazy moon was not as good as it used to be.... Basically it is empty! All due to the new disco in the Playa Dorada complex called Mangu. It was alright but they did not play enough merenge and bachata for my liking. They played alot of American music, dance, hip hop etc. Although the drinks are cheaper than crazy moon there was also an abundance of prostitutes. But hey, if your into that so be it! Oh I almost forgot...You as a tourist have to pay to get into Mangu every night. Crazy moon used to charge tourists that were not staying at Paradise hotel and casino on Fridays and Saturdays but I don't think that Crazy moon charges at all anymore.

It all depends what you want. Do you want to hang around locals or with tourists. Good local spots are La canita, La barrica, Orion disco and good tourist clubs are hemingways and crazy moon.

Question

Mangu.. sounds interestin.. is it located in the complex or in another one of the hotels? Still have a long 7 months till our return but its never too early for me to start planning.. lol

Do any of you know the name of the disco outside of Playa Dorada. I think its on the right side of the road when leaving Puerto Plata towards Sosua. Anyone know how it is?

Mangu is located in the Jack Tar Hotel just along from the Plaza. It costs 150 pesos to get in but that includes one drink.

I was there on Friday night and the music was mainly spanish with a little pop but I didn't arrive until 1am. They also had a magician on stage for a while.

As for your other question - I have no idea what the disco outside Playa Dorada you are referring to is called - sorry.
