I stayed when it first opened in the 80's and it was also my first trip to the DR (Hotel was not an AI at that time). The big disappointment is the beach.

Luckily all the restaurants on the Malecon and further along up from Long Beach were open and thriving and there were a few very good ones - anyone remember the place that had a white veranda? Upon my return a few years later and with the explosion of AI's all those great places to eat disappeared and that stretch of road was dark and not safe to walk on especially when the power was off at night.

Sorry to hear that the hotel has perhaps has fallen into some disrepair because it was great when I was there. The casino wasn't even built yet. The disoc was jammed - and not with a bunch of sankies either. Sure there were some uninvited guests (including the guy from the front desk that thought he WAS invited LOL!!) but overall the place was fine.

Interesting to hear... Casino wasn´t built... and now its built.. and closed!
They cleaned up a small spot by Cosita Rica now that they call a beach.. but its not really "it",,,
Long beach seems to be alive, the Irish chap who took over Cheers seem to have a very good reputation here.... many mention him, and said that he is the nicest that showed up here in a long time!! I have to check that out!
