Default sosua bay hotel

nice to see on escotts blog that the hotel might be getting back on track. when we stayed there last year in january, the place got locked down. a bunch of latino gangster looking guys showed up sitting around the lobby with shotguns under their leather coats. the military showed up. reporters where all kept away and the door to the beach was sealed off. my wife thought it was all pretty spooky. the owner then met with these gangster looking guys by the coffee machine in the lobby, looked like a scene out of scarface. hopfully this is the end of that foolishness because they are looking for $1,700 cdn/wk now and this isn't what we really want to see. my wife wanted to check out immediatly, which wasn't an option. it just created stress that wasn't really needed. i was waiting for the big gunfight but it never happened

My understanding from very good sources is that there was another in a series of legal confrontations last week, where one court ordered something and another court immediately revoked it.

After this latest one, the partners sat down, came to an agreement, and signed off on it over the weekend.

Apparently now that that problem has been resolved, they plan to finish work on the convention centre / casino.

Personally, I hope they've resolved their problems and that they finish the work on the building next door.

Scott also wrote that they owned the road to the beach, and the whole beach ? Couldn't find anything about that in the newspaper article ? Anybody with more info on that subject ?

I've been told by somebody who has been a reliable source in the past that the hotel has been sold to a Mexican hotel company.

This wouldnt surprise me Ken, theyve been buying steadily now for over a year, larger rather than small. Its a good way to launder money, its must be a coincidence that since they started buying the volume of drugs has increased here greatly. After all they need to bring over new equipment and furniture in containers for their new businesses dont they?

With regards to this hotel, I understood that the authorities in S.D. stopped the casino because of its height. The top layer has to come down and changes made.

Default Time Shares

While this fiasco carrys on I imagine in the typical D.R. way they are still dragging people in there and trying to sell them time shares in it.

Otherwise how would some of the local expats that work there doing it survive.

I did the tour for curiosity sake and did see some beautiful rooms.
