Default Sosua

My husband and I will be back to Puerto Plata for our 4th annual visit. We have met so many nice people, and made so many friends it's like going home....
Anyway...it just so happens that our visit will coincide with both our anniversary and my b'day ( and no I'm not telling which one) "sigh" We have heard about La Puntilla de Piergiorgio and would like to visit it for our "special dinner" night.
My query is this....1st) we have never really ventured to Sosua for the day and would like to do so. BUT..we would also like to do dinner the same eve. Is there a place we could change and wash up in order to go to dinner dressed properly??
2nd) What is a good cabfare from Puerto Plata to Sosua?? And can we usually arrange for a cab to return later in the day to bring us back??

We would like to go into Rocky's and also The New York Shark Bar. (my husband is Jersey City and I'm originally Perth Amboy NJ) So I figured we'd have no problem with conversation..hahahaha
Any help is appreciated!!!! Thanks so much (again)

La Puntilla seems like a good choice for the special occasion.
You can always grab a shower & change at Rocky's.
The cabfare depends on where you will be located in Puerto Plata, and where you get the taxi from.
If you grab a cab from the resort, it will be more expensive than one out in the streets, as well, if you are in Playa Dorada, which is relatively close to Sosua, it will cost you less than if you are coming from Costambar or Cofreisi.
We mostly speak Canadian around here, but we should be able to understand a bit of American, even from Perth Amboy.
Were you one of the Dukes?

Thumbs up the "Dukes"

Thanks for your speedy reply Rocky!!!
The "Amboy Dukes"!! That is too funny....how does a Canada native know of the Amboy Dukes??? Nugent fan by any chance??
They were actually a bit before my time.....
Thank you for the advice. Never having been to Sosua to "hang"....are beach chairs available?? or do we bring a blanket?? ( trying to lighten the load, if we have to schlep another outfit for dinner too) I'm glad that you agree the restaurant is nice for special occasions, as I hear various things about it. I'm sure if anyone has "the scoop" , it's you.
That is GREAT that we can use Rocky's to change n shower. Thanks so much.
The friends we "may" be going with will be meeting us at the Iberostar Costa Dorada. Any idea what a cab may run round trip?? Can you recommend a reputable person to call?? Or do we just "grab one" on the road??
Appreciate all the help......

Taxi fare, one-way hotel to Sosua should be around US $25. Hotel taxi rates are posted. No need to have him wait or return for you. Plenty of taxis in Sosua which will charge a rate lower than hotel taxis. The restaurant will get you a taxi or simply go to the taxi stand. Settle on the fare before you go.

Default thanks so much..

What a great help everyone is on this forum.....I appreciate your answer. I think we'll "bite the bullet" and take the cab from the hotel. Hopefully find a less expensive fare back.
I just got a Sosua map from Sosualife. What a great map....and a really good website. I'm assuming it's a fairly new forum?? (due to the lack of postings??)
I'm a bit confused about the New York Shark Bar..is it still around?? Did it move from one area to another, and that is why I see different directions??
Can't wait till April!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AFAIK Big Lou's NY Shark Bar (Casita #66 on the beach) is closed up and he is to open (and may have done so) on Pedro Clisante but not sure under what name.

For a less expensive alternative for the return, after dinner take a stroll around Sosua and sample the nightlife eventually ending up at the Texaco station on the highway. The taxis there are less expensive publicos and you can hire the whole car "solo" for about $200RD pesos (mas o menos) to Puerto Plata and they can take you right to your resort.

Howmar's taxi info is pretty spot on.
The SosuaLife site is an abandonned site and is not very current or neutral.
Lou did close his Beach Bar a few months ago, and has, or will be opening on main street, just around the corner from Rocky's.

Big Lou is open, (or almost open) on Pedro Clisante just past Harrison's Jewelry on the opposite side of the street. Look for the Yellow Neon.

I am looking forward to "The Gullet's" food review soon!
Have you met him yet Marco?

Fireguy is correct about the publicos. They usually charge 30 pesos/person to Puerto Plata and take 6 passengers. So 200 pesos is correct. The only difficulty is that none of the publicos drivers speak any English. They will start out with a high-ball gringo price of about 500 pesos. Make sure you get the correct price before getting in.

And be sure that they know where to drop you, as they only run along the highways, so may have little info as to how to get you to your actual destination.
Bear in mind, that prices rise at night, so the publicos will want more for the return trip and a taxi might, as well.
Also, a publico cannot come and pick you up right at your hotel.
If you don't speak the lingo, it may be better to stick to a taxi.
After all, it is for a special occasion, and the price differential is not that great.
