Default Breezes first time

Hi all,

Newbie poster here. I'm due to visit the breezes resort next month for my honeymoon! I'm just sort of looking for a few tips... ie. How much money to bring? Is the resort nice? Would you leave once or twice over your trip, or every day? Is car hire ok? Is it generally a safe place? etc. Generally just tips for a beginner.

I'm easily pleased, so if people are nice, and the rooms are clean I really don't care too much for the occasional bad thing such as a mild smell etc.

So hi all, and thanks for your advice in advance!

Congratulations on your wedding! Ive never stayed at breezes so cant comment on the hotel but im sure someone will chip in.
The north coast is beautiful and im sure everyone else will agree that if you dont leave the resort you'll be missing out. It is safe to leave the resort just be sensible as you would anywhere else dont flash cash, jewlery, cell phones etc.
Car Hire i think is a no no, you can get around cheaply in taxis etc just agree a fair price first. As you've never been to the dr before i'll tell you the driving has to be seen to be belived! and if there are problems you will end up in jail.
Theres plenty to do it depends what you like doing. Ocean world is brilliant, the scuba diving is fantastic and im told monster trucks and a catermeran trip are great. I didnt book through the tour operator i'd rather pay a local company.
Hope it helps

i would say definately get out of the resort. i'm sure you can take a taxi from the resort - you will pay tons more, but you can get one. if you are going to hire a car, i would do it once i get to the city and not from the resort, only because they will rip you off. you will save more money by using someone outside of the resort.

as for money, that is a personal thing b/c only you know how much crap and suveniers you will want to purchase. take cash and your credit card just in case. i wouldn't use debit cards.

i've never been to breezes but perhaps others on the board have and will comment. have a great trip and DR is a great choice for a honeymoon.

Check with www.debbiesdominicantravel.com for info on Breezes. Plus you can do a search here on this site to see what people have said.

Congratulations for making it all legal!!

Now, what to do. A trip to Ocean World is almost a must! You can take public transportation from the front gate of the Breezes to Puerto Plata and then a taxi to Ocean World. Always NEGOTIATE the fare. First ask locals what the fare is. Then when the taxi driver says N + 200% you just say "mmm, No, it is N-50%...." and be prepared to walk away... You'll have fun, just do it with a smile....

Depending on your "degree of adventerous spirit" you should also try DAmajagua Falls...truly delightful and fun.

there are other things to do.

Always use some sort of bug repellant mornings and evenings (you are NEW MEAT!!) and sun screen since it is sunny here and a bad sunburn will make life a living hell....

DO NOT rent a vehicle here, this time. Watch what is going on and leave the driving to others.....if you need a driver , just ask here and one will be found for you!!

The rooms at Breezes are quite tired so contact them in advance and try to get an upgrade because it's your honeymoon. For better rooms ask for bldg. 8 or 10 and for best ocean front views but older furnishings ask for bldg 5 (2nd or 3rd floors facing the beach).

The resorts common areas are more than adequate and we enjoyed ourselves there. As recommended PLEASE get out of the resort. There is a free shuttle three times a day to Sosua and Cabarete so you have no excuses.

Enjoy.

I'm just back from Breezes and i'm sorry to say you may be disappointed!

I went with an open mind and with the same attitude as yourself.

unfortunatly the hotel did live up to it's current bad rep.

in short all the good things you will hear about are true.

But so are all the bad things. the food, food posioning, the really bad smells, poor entertainment, broken pieces of furntiure in room etc etc.

and sadly the bad points do outweigh the good points.

i'll not bad mouth the place too much on here but PM or e-mail me for more info.

Wullie (You missed a key whenyour wrote your name, huh?):

When you are reporting facts, things you experienced, you should be able to do that here. It is certainlynot "bad-mouthing" a place or a situation.

Feel free to contribute..that is what these forums are for, after all.

Imagine you were looking for information on this hotel and came across this message. Wouldnt you want more details? You should post your facts here so all can see. Posting any facts here good or bad are what makes this board valuable to others doing future research.

It would be better to speak honestly so other people are informed. Please tell me you took the advise on here and made it outside the resort so you have some positive things about the dr to report?
