Question Can anyone recommend good places to stay in Sosua **Non-AI**

Hey guys, I plan on traveling to Sosua on August 14-21, 2006. It will be my first trip to DR. I work at this restaurant in NYC and majority of the maintenance staff are immigrants from Dominican Republic and they all advise me that Punta Cana is very expensive and that Puerto Plata / Sosua is very well worth it. It will be my wife and 8 month old son traveling and possibilty my brother and cousin might tag along for a few days.
I was leaning toward "All Inclusive" but after reading up on this forum, I really dont want to be locked down to one resort.

I was wondering if anyone here can share some of their experiences on where they stayed in Sosua? I really would prefer a safe quite environment with A/C because of my young child. And plus I would like to go out in the night time with my brother and leave my wife behind in the room to care for our son.

Thank You all for your advanced cooperation, and by the way this is my first post and I highly will recommend this site to others who plan on traveling to DR.

There are quite a few others. You can google search then make a new post on a specific hotel.

To keep busy during the day look at these day tours:

Hanging out with your brother at night will end at midnight. Read the latest threads on the midnight shutdown of bars and clubs in the DR.

There a lot of good options.
Casa Marina Reef & Beach are AI resorts that are right in town.
Your travel agent with have the details of the package deal.
There is also the Sosua Bay Hotel
http://www.starzresorts.com/

Then there are 2 bed condos as an option.

As mentioned in the above, Sosua By The Sea would be a good family option.

There are actually many options.
If you want to describe what best suits you, including budget, we could pinpoint our recommendations.

You can also try the New Garden Hotel in Sosua...it's pretty good and very central.

Also Rocky's Blues Bar......pretty good and central, and also he can set you up with some condos at Tradewinds and the Palms

Also you can try Club Residental...right in Sosua also....

Sorry no links.....don't have them handy, maybe someone can help

Sosua by the Sea also offers a bed and breakfast option. Problem solved!

We usually stay at Casa Marina while in Sosua, they have a kids club and I see them doing some fun activities with little ones, whevever I am there. As already mentioned it is right in Sosua, it is an AI and it is two resorts in one. If you want to venture off the resort, it is a short walk to town and the public beach. Don't listen to people who say it isn't safe to go off resort, you just need to be aware of your surroundings as you would when walking around in any town/city etc. ( I walked around so much this last time I even found some short cuts)
Sosua by the Sea is also very nice, They have a great room set up. We only stayed there for two days due to overbooking at Casa Marina, and we enjoyed ourselves there, both of the resorts have AC that works very well.

That is my opinion, thought that I should share

The Hotel Casa Ceyana includes a breakfast and is clean. The only problem I ever had was that rooster next door crowing at five am.

I stay in the Casa Marina with my son he's 12, He loves it there crys when it is time to come home! There is plenty for him to do, many activities through the day, the staff are excellent with the children. He would be busy all day and only come and have lunch with me and "check in" once or twice. I did write a trip report somewhere and if you want some pics i can send them to you. I went into Sosua most evenings its a great place.

nic

I am leaving NYC today Sunday at 10:00 AM enroute to Santiago. Heading for Sosua with my wife and 8 month old son.
Anything cooking this week. When can I have a good time? I plan on doing the beach during the day with my family and at night I want to enjoy what Sosua has to offer. Due to my sons young age my wife unfortunatly will be unable to accomadate me on my night missions. LoL. )~~~~
