Default Advice about Bahai Maimon please.

hi there, A New poster here. Please be gentle with me.

My wife and I are travelling to the Rui Merengue hotel at Bahai Maimon in May, is there any advice we need about the place. We are all inclusive but may want to try local restaurants etc.

I have read the thread regarding changing money, but we are taking American Express travellers Cheques (Dollars). Is it easy to change them.

Like I say any advice would be gratefully received.

thanks

keef and Jan

My wife and I have stayed at that RIU twice. No complaints at all. The staff and resort are very good. We now live in Puerto Plata, just the other side of town from the RIU. We've been here since Oct 2006 and love it. Not knowing what you are interested in makes it harder to help.

Money, if you want to change peso's for dollars only go to RUSA bank. Best rates on the north coast. Any international credit card will work here. We use visa and master card, but I left my American Express card back in the states when I retired.

Believe it or not, some folks think we must be crazy cause we live here, but my wife and I are booked in that RIU for 3 days, April 17 thru the 20.

Sosua, Cabarete are east of Puerto Plata, and are very touristy places, but may be interesting.

A nice small town (village) Maimon is also a good place to eat if you like fresh fish. It's cheap and very good. When you leave the RIU, turn right, its the next village. We eat at the last restaurant on your right. For my wife and I, its about 600 peso's. Todays exchange rate thats about $18.00. A full meal and drinks.

If there is anything I can research for you before you arrive please let me know. I'll be glad to help. Also,, if there is anything you need from the RIU let me know.

You need no credit card, you will have all you can handle at the Riu complex, if you must leave resort a bit of US $ is recommended, it is a must to visit Ocean World, great programmes available as well as excellent food there, Chris and Mady's a Dominican restaurant is just down the road, you can grab a cab there.
